I've been watching a lot of this on various channels.  I've been able to watch almost anything, but there's one thing on there that I couldn't make heads or tails of -- dressage.  From what I can tell, it's horses walking around in a pen with no obstacles.  They go from walking to trotting to various other forms of gallivanting and lose points based on the poor quality of those transitions.   ....or something like that.

Get rid of that.  Add golf.

I saw something the other day that the women were playing that I had no idea was even a sport. It looked a lot like water polo only without the water. What the hell is that?

Nah.  Best thing about the olympics is you get to see sports you only see once every four years.

^^Ah, I thought handball was like racquetball without the racquet. Crazy Americans always have to do everything different. LOL

There are more than one sport called handball.

Like there is more than one sport called hockey - field, ice, air, blind, street.

In the olympics they play what is often refered to as team handball.  You are thinking of is Gaelic handball or American Handball.

Olympic events I've enjoyed more than I thought:
- badminton
- white water rafting (maybe called something else)
- volleyball (both team and beach)

I've also watched a lot of other enjoyable things, but they are kinda known quantities: basketball, swimming, etc.

Things I just can't watch for some reason:
- dressage
- floor gymnastics

I watched women's field hockey the other day and found it surprisingly interesting and insufferably boring at the same time.  Not much action, but the occasional "what the hell are they doing" moment kept me watching.

If Abby Wambach takes a dump it's front page news around here.  Supposedly she got punched during one of the matches.  I saw the picture.  Didn't look like any kind of a black eye I ever had.  So I can't avoid it in the newspaper.  But I won't watch it.  I can think of a million other things I'd rather be doing...

Rafting involves a raft (which means inflatable in that world). I assume you either watched canoeing or kayaking as those are the olympic events.

I have been an Olympic fan all of my life so nothing is really new to me. I will watch most anything except any equestrian event. I use to work at a venue that hosted a week long horse show and I found it quite boring. I like all the major events but some lesser watched ones I have payed attention to this time around include archery and fencing.

It's on tape. She was definately hit in the eye. The player who did it says it was unintentional, but it sure looked awful intentional and Abby is a target for every team she plays against, so I have a hard time believing it was purely an accident. The girl was trying to be physical with Abby and just made a mistake. It happens. Abby knows that. She wasn't upset about it after the game and even joked about it although she did have a few choice words for the player when it happened.

She said she was going to punch her back, but thought otherwise....obviously she considered it more than rough play and unintentional.

Yes at that time that it happened I'm sure she did consider throwing a punch back, but I didn't say that she thought it was unintentional, I said she knows all about rough play. I don't believe that Abby has ever intentionally tried to hurt someone, but in the course of play if someone gets hurt, well that's just part of the game. No harm, no foul kind of thing. It's a contact sport after all. She knows that and I believe that's what happened here. I don't think the girl meant to punch Abby in the eye, I think she meant to throw her arm into her chest and missed and hit Abby in the eye. Still dirty, but not to intentionally hurt Abby, just be physical with her. Abby gets that kind of treatment all the time and is used to it. That's what I meant.

I watched that match during my lunch break. I went back and told a friend that a Columbia hussy was trying to beat up our players
