Miami Herald States Obvious about Ireland

Citing a friend of Dolphins owner Stephen Ross, the Miami Herald reports GM Jeff Ireland will be in "serious trouble" if the team "bombs" in 2012.
The Dolphins are on their way after Sunday's 20-point loss to the Texans. Per the Herald, Ross does not have "blind faith" in Ireland and would be willing to fire him if things go south. Another friend of Ross said Ireland would likely not survive if the Dolphins went 5-11 this season. As the Dolphins continue to pile up losses, expect fire-the-GM talk to become louder and louder. Ireland did an incredibly poor job of surrounding rookie quarterback Ryan Tannehill with talent.

Very shocking that a team who finished 6-10 last year and is now starting a rookie QB lost it's first game on the road against a very good team. NOW Ireland's job is in jeopardy? After the obvious happened?

I'm not trying to poo poo on anyone's hope here, but am I the only person who laughs aloud at someone saying Miami will beat the Jets I'm two weeks after the way both teams played today? The Jets dropped nearly 50 on a Bills team that was supposed to be defensively improved, and they never even unveiled their super-secret whatever it is Wildcat package. Meanwhile Miami... Well, we all saw it. -EK

My mistake. I was told they didn't. I was watching Miami. I have no love for Jets QBs, but let's be for real- Sanchez's stat line at the end of the day looked a heck of a lot better than not just Miami's QB, but most of the starters across the board. No, I'm not going to nit pick who he looked better or worse than, but no one other than Matt Ryan comes to mind. Was it a fluke? Maybe. But be for real- at this point, Miami would be at least a TD dog even at home against them. That's reality. -EK

A lot of the Jets points came because Ryan Fitzpatrick pulled a Ryan Tannehill and kept getting intercepted in his own end. That being said, I see your point. The way the team played today, assuming ANY victory is a foolish assumption. There are no easy wins, we are the easy wins.

He very likely should be in serious trouble.  He's made some horrible decisions this offseason and his reputation is stained.  He needs to be replaced with a GM that know's and trusts Coach Philbin and that Coach Philbin can work with.

Perhaps the most serious sign that he is in trouble.  Three of his draft picks, Michael Egnew, Lamar Miller and Rishard Matthews, were inactive for this game.

He wants to get back into the league. He wants to set his son up with a job so you gotta put up with his son. But he would bring instant credibility to Ross and the franchise as he is well respected by everyone. He also was very high on Tannehill pre-draft. I also don't think there would be a personality conflict with Philbin/Polian as Philbin is very "dungy-like" in his demeanor.

And with a 1st, TWO 2nd, and TWO 3rd round picks someone like Polian would love that I am sure.
