yeah, workers comp doesn't pay you out your full salary for x amount of years.  workman's comp is a smaller percentage for a limited time

Not in NYS, I know people who have received workers comp for life.  Not to mention, since you don't pay income taxes or social security taxes on workers comp, you actually can make just as much as your full salary.

i don't think NFL contracts should be guaranteed.  your career can end on one play....so if a guy gets signed to an 5yr 50m contract and blows his knee out on his first play from scrimmage the team is fucked, and their salary cap next year is fucked too.

Teams can take out insurance against this happening.  As for the salary cap issue, I'd be for setting rules in place if you lose a guy to a season ending, or career ending, injury that the remaining salary should not count against the cap.

Not entirely accurate. There are circumstances were portions of w/c would be taxable under IRS publication 525. Second, after 2007 New York became a "capped" state. "Permanent" disablility no longer means w/c payments for the life of the injury. NY is trying to fall in on the model that Texas uses, once MMI is established, the claim ends.

The Yankees should just forfeit their season now.

Smiley

I heard the same rumors (along with who the other "star" is), but I don't want to put it out there.  I actually don't think Cano is a juicer, but time will tell.

I saw on the news yesterday that A-Rod's salary is $2 Mil more than the total salary of the Houston Astro's, and he probably won't even play half the season.

That's more of a disgrace to the Astros than the Yankees who handed out the worst contract in the history of sports. Houston is not small market, no reason to have the lowest payroll in the Majors with no hope of competing within the next 5 years.

BUMP

Looks like MLB is going to be handing out lengthy suspensions too the players involved.  A-Roid and Ryan Braun are the two biggest names here

If Ryan Braun is suspended because of this, how does it affect the way people look at him. He got out of his last suspension, but a lot of people did not believe he was innocent.

The local news this morning said that over 20 players would be suspended over 100 games a piece. That's a lot of missed baseball!

The ones who didn't believe he was innocent are entitled to a major "I told you so"

He wasn't innocent, it was just a chain of command error. The only way he could be called clean is if someone purposely tainted his urine with steroids. Pretty unlikely.

As much as I would like to see A-Rod suspended for 100 games, the evidence against all of these guys is really shady. I want to see them get caught, but it really boils down to handwritten evidence and testimony from the guy running the show who has his neck in a noose. No way the MLBPA will allow any suspensions to stand without some hard proof.

And why is his neck in a noose?  Because MLB is now taking action and the authorities may get involved.

He couldn't afford the legal fees against MLB, so he asked A-Rod for money(or extorted, whatever your terminology), Alex said no so he struck a deal.

IMO, the evidence is enough to convict them in the court of public opinion. However, the MLBPA is really powerful and will fight to the end 100 game suspensions. Especially for players making so much money. I hope the players go down, but I am bracing myself for nothing to happen.
