As @RavensInsider insider reported, WR Anquan Boldin traded to 49ers for a sixth-round pick. WRs piling up in NFC West.

Anquan Boldin needs to pass physical before trade with 49ers becomes complete; he's in Africa on mission. Physical, trade completion await.

These are classic cases of jumping to ridiculous conclusions without utilizing any part of the brain other than the frontal conspiracy lobe...

Taking a 6th instead of a 7th makes sense.

But taking a 6th for the #1 WR on your team?  I don't know if there is any historical precedence for that.

OAK traded Randy Moss for a 4th... after rapidly declining production and general Randyness on a non-contending team.
PIT traded Santonio Holmes for a 5th... after repeated trouble with the law and during a four-game suspension for substance abuse violations.

If you have some prior examples of a contending team trading away their #1 receiver for peanuts, I'm happy to hear them.

Swap out the words "the #1 WR on your team" with "a talented but older WR who wants more money than the team is willing to pay him" and you won't have to look hard for precedents...

Yea, I had ehard there was a good chance Baltimore was cutting Bolden anyway. They wanted him to take a pay cut he was not willing to do.

...except that Boldin was still under contract for another year.  So just like GB rode out Jennings' contract, and PIT rode out Wallace's contract, and NE rode out Welker's contract, BAL could have ridden out Boldin's.  I find it difficult to believe that the 6th round prospect will be likely to contribute more in 2013 than Boldin would have.

But if there are other motivations at play, it doesn't seem as crazy.

The Ravens took a $1.5M cap hit in dead money just to trade him.  If you're telling me that $6M (his base 2013 salary, which also happens to be less than MIA is paying Brian Hartline in 2013) was too much money to bring back the leading receiver on the team for the last three years (and the receiver that made the most plays out of their WR corp during their just-concluded title run)... sorry, I don't agree.  Particularly since they just backed the dump truck up to Flacco's house based almost exclusively on his performance during that same title run.
