The Ravens took a $1.5M cap hit in dead money just to trade him.  If you're telling me that $6M (his base 2013 salary, which also happens to be less than MIA is paying Brian Hartline in 2013) was too much money to bring back the leading receiver on the team for the last three years (and the receiver that made the most plays out of their WR corp during their just-concluded title run)... sorry, I don't agree.  Particularly since they just backed the dump truck up to Flacco's house based almost exclusively on his performance during that same title run.

Exactly.  Flacco should have given Boldin a kick-back for making him look so good.

You know, for all the talk about how BAL was making a perfectly justifiable decision not to pay $6M for an "older WR," I seem to have a hard time finding 49er fans who are complaining about having to pay $6M (and give up a sixth-round pick!) for that very same receiver.

Of course, maybe that's because SF is a team in contention for the title.  Because this kind of move would make sense for a non-contender, but otherwise, it seems rather questionable.

You got a very good deal.  After his performance in the Super Bowl, getting this guy for a sixth rounder was a big steal.

Not so sure why you are getting offended Stroke but there is more more brotherly love in that deal than all of Philadelphia! They could have surely gotten a better deal from many other teams.

The good news for Baltimore is that he is out of the division and conference.

Show me one report...even a rumor, where Baltimore turned down a better deal than a 6th rounder in order to deal him to SF, and I'll buy it. If not, I'm not... The best offer they got, for a player they were going to release, was the 6th rounder offered by the Niners. If the Niners were coached by Joe Schmo from Fresno, that deal still happens.

Likewise, if any evidence had been presented which showed that Baltimore had turned down a better offer than the one they made with SF, I'd be forced to consider it.

Since no evidence has been forthcoming on either count, I fell back to the position I usually take when dealing with conspiracy nutjobs...which is "show me proof, or shut the fuck up already." Not coincidentally, this is also the position I take when religious nutjobs talk about accepting their version of God "on faith."

Not coincidentally then, you are wrong on both. Everyone becomes an attorney carefully weighing evidence when a conclusion is impolitic. More evidence has been presented than what you are claiming - you know it. It is not merely, 'they're brothers' - it's "they're brothers, and there is no precedent for a move like this, and the contract that he had could've allowed them to ride him out and then allow him to go as an FA, etc etc."

I wish *everyone* (myself included, at times) on this board would take a deep breath and say to themselves "you know, it's ok to acknowledge that someone else has a point, even when I disagree w/ it."

That said, I'm done. Arguing these things is like arguing w/ a drunk.

Sunstroke, you gotta admit, that's probably the first thing most anyone would have thought of. It's almost like he said to his brother "Aww, you almost won the Superbowl, here, take my best receiver for peanuts." I'm not concluding that is the case, but, it's certainly the first thing that popped into my head, and I"m all out of tinfoil.
