I'm glad this isn't official.  I'm still holding out hope on Jake.  I know I'm in the minority, but he's a player that I think is worth the risk if you can get a hometown pricetag.

^^ I agree with Dave.  That's why I was curious.  If he signed with St. Louis without visiting another team, they must have dumped $11 million on his front porch.

I didn't find the story on any national sites, only Sun Sentinel.

Agreed....I know most don't care if he is gone but if we can get him at the right price I would love to keep him. I just hope Miami gets a chance to see what he is signing for and an opportunity to match if it is reasonable.

I consider him one of us since we drafted him. I actually would be more inclined to match any reasonable offer he was to get just for that fact alone.

The thing is that there is absolutely no reason to believe that Long is wanting to give Miami a hometown pricetag. He still believes that he's an elite LT when he's healthy and who knows maybe he's right. A healthy elite LT is easily worth 11 million. Easily. The problem is that Miami either doesn't think he's still an elite LT when he's healthy or they don't think he'll be able to stay healthy.

I think Miami should offer him a "reasonable contract" at around $9 million per year, with bonuses for high end performance markers like pro bowls, all-pros, etc... You could even give him early buy-out options so if he thinks he's proven enough, post-injuries, to be the top-paid LT, he can go out and try to get it.

They should offer him a really low contract with huge incentives and give him his walking papers if he sucks
