I saw Dave Matthews Band on their Under the Table and Dreaming tour at the Chateau Ste. Michelle Winery Amphitheater, in Woodinville, WA back in '95. Another super cool band, Jamiroquai, opened for them. Outdoor bowl amphitheater, everyone had a bottle of wine, and there was enough pot smoke in the air to choke Cheech and Chong. Both bands were nothing short of awesome, but what made this show so memorable for me (and everyone else in attendance) was the "non-concert activity" that briefly interrupted the show.
Behind the stage was a small hill, and on the other side of the hill, unbeknownst to everyone at the concert, a massive hot air balloon rally was getting started. As Dave Matthews Band started the violin intro for the song "Warehouse," suddenly every eye in the crowd suddenly looked up from the stage to the top of the hill, as about 30 hot air balloons broke free into the afternoon sky. There was an audible "Ohhhhh" from several thousand concertgoers, and Dave and the band stopped playing, turned around and we all watched the hot air balloons for about 2-3 minutes. Then Dave turned back around and said "That was pretty cool..." and they started back in on Warehouse again. It was one of the most amazingly beautiful things I've ever seen.
