Not breaking news by any means but got a text from someone saying he was leaving. I'm sure Stroke is stoked.  Shocked

I don't think this will have any effect on the on-field product.

I think he's suggesting that Ross may move this team sooner than anticipated.

He wasn't the CEO the last time he was with the Padres ('95-'02), so this is a promotion for him, at least within the baseball world.

I met Dee (shook his hand once, listened to him give a presentation) at the Dolphins media day I went to.  If he were going to be handling on-field stuff for the Padres, I'd be more interested, but until the Padres start spending money (and I don't see that happening any time soon), the CEO position isn't one that affects me much as a fan.

That he is jumping off a sinking ship and there might be a reason behind it. Stadium deal failed in a very public way, they bombed out on the 2 Super Bowl bids, and maybe he knows Ross's next move and he wants to get out while he can and not deal with it or have his name associated with it. Or just not be in an unstable environment like the Miami Dolphins are.

I mean the guy might just love baseball and want to be in MLB, I don't know the man and that might be his only motive. But I gotta feeling there is more going on here. Wonder if the Jordan Zimmermann era is on the horizon (and I don't mean the Nationals starting pitcher, talking the billionaire who has been trying to buy the team for a few years now)

I wouldn't read too much into it.

It might mean that Ross is planning on moving.

OR it could mean....

Dee has decided he is better at baseball than football.

or

Ross is pissed at Dee for not securing the financing.  (This doesn't mean moving it just means Ross feels Dee didn't do his job)

or

Mrs. Dee like San Diego better than Miami.

or

Ross doesn't like the Orange carpet and other antics.  And wants a CEO that is focused on other types of promotions.

or

Ross feels that Dee hasn't done enough to sell season tickets.

Etc.

Moving is only one of many reasons.

I think that really high level people like this tend to need new challenges and situations.  It's probably tough to have tried all of these things unsuccessfully and then still find the drive to go after them.
