With all of the comic book fanatics and Joss Whedon disciples on this board, I have to assume that some of you watched the pilot episode of the new show. I recorded it and watched it this morning, and I am already jonesing for episode 2. That said, I am really easy to please when it comes to "this type" of show. I was fanatical about the show "Heroes," and semi-fanatical about "Alphas." Basically, I am a sci-fi/fantasy junkie, and any time someone breaks out the crack pipe, you can pretty much count on me taking a few hits.

I don't want to go into any real detail here about the episode 1 plot, because I don't want to spoil it for anyone who may be waiting to watch it, but I will say that if you like this genre of TV shows, I don't believe you will be disappointed with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

It has positives and negatives.  There were a few clever lines.  I like how it seems to tie pretty directly into the world of Marvel, with the pilot episode being about the same thing as in Iron Man 3.  Plus, they talk about other characters from the universe and it seems that the events of The Avengers started everything.  So that's cool that it exists in a world I already like.

That said, it's corny.  You just can't escape the look and feel of network TV.  The quality of HBO and AMC are ruining this kind of monster-of-the-week crap for me.  There's an "obviousness" to the acting and directing style that seems like everything is made to the lowest common denominator.  For what it is, though, it's fine.  I will keep watching, but this is a Smallville-level of cornyness.

I liked the episode. I didn't get the same feel as Dave. I thought Smallville was terrible and this was miles ahead. Is it the greatest show on TV? Not even close. Is it worth watching? So far I think so.

I'm already intrigued by the appearance of Ron fucking Glass and Coulson's mysterious resurrection story.

I will certainly give this show a lot of leeway simply because of the subject matter, but based on just the one episode so far, I don't think I'll have to.

I'm with you on this. I tried watching Smallville, but the inherent cheesiness of it put me off pretty quickly. I didn't get that feel with this show.

Yeah. God bless Joss Whedon for using some of my favorite actors from his other works. Ron Glass (from Serenity and Firefly) and J. August Richards (from Angel) definitely gave me that "familiar" feel.

I'm also really intrigued about Coulson's Tahiti vacation. I wonder how many episodes we'll get spoon-fed little teasers about it before the whole truth finally comes out.

This show kinda reminds me of Bones or Hawaii 5-0 or any of these ensemble police procedural type shows that are on network TV.  Had this not been a Marvel thing, I wouldn't watch again.  As is, I'll see if it gets any better, but I feel like you guys are being incredibly generous.

Very very cheesy. At the end, the little smile-a-thon deserved a major face palm.

Having said that, I was always a huge comic nerd so I'll keep watching.

Disclaimer: I am Joss Whedon's bitch. If I ever have a child he/she will be named after someone in the Buffyverse. My beagle's name is Willow. (She is so not a Buffy.)

I liked it. A lot. I know that Joss's pilots aren't always great. The entire first season of Buffy was cute, but meh. Seasons 2 through 4 are cult classics and the rest of the series were still great. Firefly? Amazing. I think it's got a lot of potential. Also, I think Agent Coulson is adorable.

And as to Dave's Smallville comparison? NO NO NO. I HATED Smallville. What an awful show.

I think the show was pretty good. As I understand it none of the enforcers will be on it but that would be really cool if they had some guest appearances . As far as smallville goes it was terrible. As a kid growing up superman was my favorite hero so I watched a lot of the smallvilles even at the end just to see him put on the suit. They even screwed that up.

I watched the first half of the show last night, but fell asleep.  I thought that this episode was much better than the first, so far.  The references to the greater Marvel universe are a nice touch.  Still...production values are so sketchky sometimes.  As the show starts, everyone is loading into a plane (supposed to be outside), but the lighting is so bad that it looks like you're filming inside a Costco under florescent bulbs.

I did see Samuel L Jackson on the show last night right?

Yeah, Samuel L. Jackson was on last night. As cool as it was to see him on there, his little cameo was a bit on the cheesy side.

I thought that cameo was the only redeeming quality of last night's show.  I was very underwhelmed.

As a bonus, I'm really enjoying "The Goldbergs" immediately following SHIELD.

So far this season, I enjoyed the first episode greatly.  The second one was mostly a waste of time outside of Fury's appearance.  The 3rd was starting to head that way until they showed the origin story of Graviton.  Plus, Skye running in the wet dress really grabbed my errrr uhhh...attention.

I think SHIELD would greatly benefit from the AMC TV drama approach.  Instead of 20+ episodes over the season, this show might be better off with a shortened season to limit potential story meandering.  It's already been picked up for the full first season run, so I guess we'll see how it plays out.

3 episodes in, I see potential for a good show hiding in there.  Maybe they just need to find their footing.  The 1st season of Supernatural was pretty tough to watch at times, but they eventually figured out what the hell they were doing and turned it into a great show.  I'm hopeful we'll see more SHIELD evolve in a similar manner.
