Filling in some holes for the offensive line.

In an attempt to supplement the team's depleted offensive line league, sources say the Miami Dolphins have claimed offensive guard David Arkin off the Dallas Cowboys practice squad.

Arkin, a former Missouri State standout, was selected in the fourth-round by the Cowboys in the 2011 NFL draft.

He was inactive for six straight games in Dallas before his release, and subsequent re-signing to the practice squad earlier this season.

Arkins was a four-year starter at Missouri State. The 6-foot-5, 310-pounder has been with the Cowboys for three seasons, but hasn't played in a single NFL game.

The Dolphins need help on the offensive line because of Richie Incognito's indefinite suspension, and Jonathan Martin's prolonged absence from the team.

Arkin's addition hints that the team is apparently leaning towards placing Martin, who is away from the team receiving emotional therapy, on the NFI/reserve list, designating he left the team.

The move would create a roster spot, but might open up a can of worms regarding Martin's weekly salary because the Dolphins could opt not to pay him.

However, there are other avenues the Dolphins could take to open up a spot on the team's 53-man roster. Martin could remain on the non-football injury list, but he'd take up a roster spot. On the NFI/reserve list he'd be eligible to return to the team at any point.

The Dolphins typically keep seven or eight offensive linemen on the 46-man active gameday roster. The usual breakdown is the five starters, reserve guard Nate Garner, and reserve tackle Will Yeatman. But Garner will likely replace Incognito as the Dolphins starting left guard.

Tackle Dallas Thomas, the third-round pick from Tennessee, and guard Danny Watkins are on the 53-man roster, but usually not on the 46-man active gameday roster.

When the Dolphins take the field Monday at Tampa Bay, they’ll likely have a starting lineup of Bryant McKinnie at left tackle, Garner at left guard, Mike Pouncey at center, John Jerry at right guard and Tyson Clabo at right tackle.

Perhaps Yeatman and Watkins complete the 46-man active gameday roster this week. How Arkins will be used is a mystery at this point, but the Dolphins opted to poach him off the Cowboys roster instead of promoting offensive tackle Jason Weaver or center Sam Brenner up from its own practice squad.
