DAVIE, Fla. — The Miami Dolphins continued to rally around suspended offensive lineman Richie Incognito Thursday in light of allegations that he bullied teammate Jonathan Martin, but a police report from 2012 highlighted his boorish side with crude details.

Incognito allegedly harassed a 34-year-old African-American female volunteer at the annual Fins Weekend Golf Tournament on May 18, 2012, by touching her privates with a golf club and emptying bottles of water in her face, according to a police report obtained by Local 10 News in Miami.

The allegations added up to another disturbing day of BullyGate. Earlier in the day there was a report that Incognito was ready to file a grievance against the Dolphins. Later Thursday, high-profile attorney David Cornwell released a statement on Martin’s behalf, in which he claimed Incognito wasn’t the only Dolphin harassing Martin. Martin, a fellow offensive lineman who is biracial, has not spoken publicly since he left the Dolphins last week and returned to his home in California.

In the statement, Cornwell said, “Jonathan Martin’s toughness is not at issue” and claimed “Jonathan endured harassment that went far beyond the traditional locker room hazing. For the entire season-and-a-half that he was with the Dolphins, he attempted to befriend the same teammates who subjected him to the abuse with the hope that doing so would end the harassment. This is a textbook reaction of victims of bullying.

And the team covered it up to boot.  This puts Jeff Ireland, Joe Philbin and Dawn Aponte in an even tougher spot.

They didn't cover it up.  Philbin said he and the organization knew about it and  it was reported to the NFL league office as well. And remember there were no charges filed with that incident. The police report listed it as "battery" and in the same night listed the case as "clear" and all the woman wanted was an apology. She was told what action to take for criminal charges and she never did.  I am NOT defending his actions, just saying it wasn't covered up.

I don't see anyone defending Richie's actions or words. In the media or even on this boad. The overwhelmining majority have said he doesn't belong on the Dolphins anymore. That its now gone too far. What some object too is how Martin handled the situation but that is a different debate than "defending Richie's actions." But you EK taking the "moral high ground" here when you have praised and defended the likes of Jerome Simpson, Brandon Marshall, and Justin Blackmon really is funny. Drug addicts, drunks, and wife beating you support. This is where the line is drawn though, racist voicemails and so called bullying?! lol

Especially since YOU once said this...
I get that some o you guys want a squeaky clean Beaver Cleaver bunch of guys on the field and hated Marshall for his antics while he was there. If that's the route Miami goes, passing over talent because they're not saints off the field, be ready for more of the same as they've had since Marino retired. How many "character" guys have they passed on who became outstanding players? At this point I will take a Superbowl and guys with multiple suspensions over 50s sitcom family and another 6-7 win season. -EK

But now of course you are taking the "moral high ground" with Richie acting all high and mighty....funny stuff! Just like the media a lot of hypocrisy is out there among NFL fans.

Bottom line, Richie will have a tough road back into the NFL and his playing days might be over. Not like he was playing great this year anyway giving up 6 sacks. Martin will have a trouble/issues with whatever team takes him on next if he continues to play NFL football. It's a terrible situation for both guys and for the NFL and Dolphins organization. But listening to some in the media and some fans is comical as many ex-players who were the biggest jerks out there when they played are now acting all high and mighty.

He also punched a security guard and managed to escape legal charges or any NFL punishment.

He has managed to get away with too much for too long that he doesn't ever expect there to be consequences to his actions.

Agree 100%. And this thing with Martin is probably the straw that broke the camels back and the one that will force him out of the league. For one he is in the wrong, two it has made real national headlines and is bigger than a sports story. And last but not least his level of play has sunk so low that no team will tolerate this because they don't need too anymore as he is a marginal NFL guard at best. He is easily replaceable.
