For me he was always Jim Rockford but I loved pretty much everything he did up through the Notebook. Stayed married to his wife for almost 60 years and from what I understand was pretty much the same guy he portrayed himself to be. I remember many years ago hearing in an acting class or something that he had never had a lesson. Don't know why but that always stuck in my head.

RIP Mr. Garner as they don't make them like you very often ... if at all any more!!

Right there with ya on that.  When I was a kid, Rockford Files was one of my dad's favorite shows and we would always watch it together.  Saw an episode recently on one of the "classic" channels and the writing, etc. for that show have stood the test of time very well and it was still entertaining.  By all accounts, James Garner was a stand up guy and a good man.  RIP indeed.

I was a big Rockford Files fan as a kid growing up, actually watched a few old episodes on Hulu a year or two ago.  Loved that gold Camaro, or was it a firebird?

It was a gold Firebird...awesome car.

RIP, Garner. The Rockford Files was one of the coolest early crime dramas

I don't even know what the Rockford Files is about.

In my hazy child memory, I associate it with Barney Miller; i.e. "that dumb show that's always on before the A-Team."

^^^^ I think age plays a big part of that.  I liked Barney Miller too but it was completely different from Rockford files. The A team goes without question.

Yeah, I know Barney Miller was on before the A-Team (which was the 8PM show), because I would turn the channel and be exasperated waiting on that show to end so A-Team can start.  I think Rockford Files was on before some other 8PM show on a different network.
