The comic Wonder Woman is not really like the one in Super Friends or the Lynda Carter TV show.  Today's Wonder Woman is basically a female Superman; her invisible jet is not nearly as useful because she can fly.

P.S. Wonder Woman is not an American.  She is from the island of Themyscira and is most appropriately classified as a Greek Amazon.
She may not be American but she certainly started off appearing proud to be one.

Linda's costume didn't deviate much from that.

Something like this could have worked for the reboot although most men would never run from her ... lol

Well, most comic book characters stopped being overtly American decades ago; Superman hasn't fought for "truth, justice, and the American way" in many years.

Hell, even Captain America was recently fighting against the U.S. government when they tried to force all superhumans to register (the Civil War storyline).

She started out 75 years ago.  Characters evolve and are portrayed in many, many different ways over that time.  I find those that are the most shocked at the film versions of these characters seem to be the ones who don't understand where the characters are in the present and are stuck to how they remember the character as a kid.  If you had a Wonder Woman on film like Linda Carter with the Dark Knight Rises version of Batman and Man of Steel's Superman, it would be a total mis-fit.  The world building that is being done by Warner Bros. demands a warrior, tribal version of the character.  The Stars and Stripes would make no sense in this context.

Too thin and modelish. Does not come across as an Amazon warrior princess. Gina Carano would have been so much better visually as Wonder Woman.
