He was 100% wrong this past offseason with his Wallace and Jordan being traded rumor, they were never offered nor could they be because of the salary cap implications.

He reported a rumor that the Eagles were interested in Dion Jordan. That doesn't mean he reported the Dolphins were looking to trade Jordan.

Actually, when the rumor came out I dismissed it because of the 8 figure cap hit trading Jordan would create.

But we have to make a distinction between reporting rumors on Twitter and putting up an article on CBS. Too many people see something on Twitter and consider it news.

Actually a Philly Radio station first reported the Jordan rumor and LaCanfora stole it from them and ran with it. I always found it funny none of the ESPN guys or Glazer reported it. A couple mentioned it as LaCanfora's report but would NEVER put their name too it as in they heard it as well or confirmed other reports. That tells ya all you need to know about that one. Nobody but him would touch it (except for one Philly radio station.) Plus Armando made one phone call and shot that entire story down within 5 minutes.

But the Wallace and Cam Wake trade stuff I am 99% sure LaCanfora just flat out made up because there was just no way it was going to happen nor could it happen with the salary cap

If it comes from a reporter, a post on Twitter could be considered news.  If John Clayton posts on his Twitter account: "Peyton Manning Traded to Giants," You better believe its a news story.  Doesn't give him a free pass because he didn't post it on ESPN.com.

I just feel like citing "unnamed sources" removes accountability.  Reporters will lean on "source confidentiality" to remove their accountability.  I trust John Clayton because he hasn't missed on a bunch of stories.  He doesn't publish headlines using words like "could" and "may."  He's reputable.

A guy like LaCanfora posts an article that said "QB change may be coming!" is only designed to incite doubt.  I heard from unnamed sources that "Brian Fein could win the lottery tomorrow!"  Headlines!  Of course I COULD, but I probably won't.  Just be forthcoming in your reporting, check and double check, and have multiple sources.  Don't rush to press because you wanna be first.  The journalism industry is built on trust and reputation, and some reporters are more interested in hearing their name on SportsCenter rather than being sure.

Man, if that weak-ass shit is what passes for evisceration and annihilation these days, we've truly become a nation of overly delicate pussies...

Now this story comes out tonight:

http://miamiherald.typepad.com/sports-buzz/2014/09/11-pm-tuesday-dolphins-roster-rookie-front-office-news-kaayaum-chatter-heat-marlins.html

The important part:

Quote
### According to a source with direct knowledge, there is no truth to a CBS report of friction between Philbin and team executive Dawn Aponte. Their relationship remains strong and their job duties do not put them in position for conflict.

And contrary to Jason LaCanfora's report, it was owner Stephen Ross – not Aponte --- who hired former Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum as a consultant.

Gee, LaCanfora was wrong again. Never saw that one coming...
