Have to say that I agree with a lot of things is this article. Whether it's by pure chance or Ross has started to figure it out, I like the direction the Dolphins have been heading for the last couple of years.

He gave Philbin an extension when we won a meaningless Week 16 game against a bad team after we were already eliminated from the playoffs. He did this because he likes the idea of continuity, even when it's just continued losing and mediocrity. Now, we have people more powerful than the GM making personnel decisions.

No, I don't think he's figured it out.

That is more about repairing his image in league circles. He was considered a joke and a clown for how he was handling things. He has mishandled the Sparano extension/Harbaugh courtship. Then he does fire Sparano and nobody wanted to interview with him because he wouldn't fire Ireland and how he treated Sparano. So he wants to come off as a "nice" owner and not knee-jerk so he gave Philbin one more year. I got no problem with that. He is still learning how the league works and if it means giving Philbin one more chance, whatever.

I think he is a very nice guy on a personal level, especially with his charity work. That may be the problem though, he is TOO nice. What it takes to get fired by him is just too extraordinary. What if we go 9-7 and backdoor our way into the playoffs on the 7th tiebreaker and then lose by 50 in the first round? 5 year extensions?

Just hire the right people and walk away until they screw up, then fire them.

On paper, this team is poised to make the playoffs.  They have filed a lot of needs this offseason and upgraded at key positions.   But Philbin and Ross are still around.  Those guys are complete disasters.  They could fuck up a plate of scrambled eggs

On paper, I honestly don't see how we don't win the division. We are very talented on the offensive side of the ball and improved defensively, though I would say that is the weaker of the two sides. Who am I supposed to be afraid of, the Bills and their overrated "new" offense? Brought in a RB who didn't want to be there and had the 21st best YPA in the league? Game Changer!

Or the Jets and how they got Brandon Marshall on the downside of his career with no one to throw him the ball. Thank God they brought in some aging corners, why if they won 8 games with them 3 years ago, then surely now that they are older they are Superbowl bound.

That just leaves the Pats and their cheating 38 year old QB who is suspended for 4 games and lost their best defensive player, aging as he is. If Miami had good coaching, this is a 12 win team and runs away with the division. As it stands, the players have to tell Coyle what plays to call.

Answer this question in one simple sentence:

We will not know until the regular season.

In a sign of change, Philbin has agreed to do 2 joint practices with the Panthers in advance of their preseason game Aug 22nd.

Philbin has been against joint practices with other teams in the past, looks like he is open to trying new things now with his job on the line

FWIW Alex Marvez of Foxsports has a ranking of head coaches I saw today, which has Philbin ranked 26th (and that's not including the three new head coaches), so only three ranked worse (Gruden, Pettine, & Gus Bradley).

I would rather have Bradley and Pettine over Philbin

What has Gruden done that was so bad other than fight with his idiot owner about his crippled QB needing to be replaced?

Watch some Skins games. His clock management and  in game decisions aren't that great

This means the Dolphins will be practicing with Jonathan Martin.   Uh oh
