That's because this is a throwback to 1996.

This makes no sense.  Why would the Dolphins choose to wear a 1996 throwback at all, much less when hosting the Giants?

First off, no team should ever use a throw back to a year that they failed to make the playoffs.  Throwbacks should glorify the teams past.  The oldest Patriots throwback I want to buy is 2001!

But going with the Giants and 1996 makes even less sense.  The Dolphins hosted the Giants in 1996 -- and lost.  Really?  You want to relive that?  Maybe for MNF they can show highlights of that at the stadium.

Why not just do a throw back to 2007 and really live up the glory days?

It's really a no brainer. Even non-Dolphin fans really like the old uniforms better.

Yup.  I thought the best comment ever was something to the affect, "all this focus on concussions and they take away flippers helmet"

Cause the Giants game is on Monday Night Football and 2 weeks before Christmas. So they can do a national showcase of these jerseys (which they will be selling) to ALL Dolphins fans in America on ESPN during a national TV game. So any Dolphins fans who want to buy can can run to NFLshop.com or the Dolphins Website shop to go buy one!

As if they weren't all over social media, this forum, pretty much everywhere you look.  If you're a Dolphins' fan and you don't know about this before December 14, then you're living in a cave.

You may be the only person who cared enough to look any of that up. I don't think anyone else in the world thought anything about it except that it is a throwback jersey.

I disagree that its a throwback to 1996.  Its not. Its supposed to be a throwback to the 70's.

It most closely represents the 1973 version:

Although to me the jersey looks more like the early-80's version.

The helmets are definitely form the 70's though

I was completely wrong. I must have had the blurry eye or something because I looked back at the article again and I flipped a 6 into a 9. It says they are a throwback to 1966. OOPS.

The older Dolphins fans who aren't in Miami and not on twitter or the internet might now know.

You're right. 80-year-old Dolphins' fan in Ohio might not know.  And that's the exact demographic that would want these jerseys for Christmas.

I think that a lot of you might be dismissed how common it is for people to be really big fans of the team, but "turn off" until the season starts.  This is especially true if people follow multiple sports and are neck deep in baseball right now.

Yeah, I'd say they are '66 throwbacks.  Striped socks, sleeve stripe is not at the edge of the sleeve, leg stripe is orange down the center with no white borders within.  I think the combo of those three disqualify all other era uniforms.

It does seem like the aqua may be a bit darker than the original, though.

I  like the throwbacks but I like the regular uniforms better than the one's we just changed from. The logo looked like Charlie Tuna.

I like the "throwback" uniforms, but other than the helmet logo they really don't look the 70's era uniforms.

My friend.. these are the 60's era uni's  with an updated modern twist , Nike did say they modernized it a little.

I don't think "really big" fans ever turn off. Casual fans, yes. Really big fans, no.

Dave is 100% correct. Also, guys in their 50's and 60's for the most part aren't on twitter or scrolling the internet for sites like this or even reading Miami Herald website for news and such w here they might come across this. And if your not how would you know about this BEFORE that game.  And Brian, what you fail to realize is maybe the 80 year old in Ohio buys it for his grandson or his son...not for himself.
