As a long-time Street Fighter tournament player, I never would have imagined that I would be watching it on ESPN (well, OK, ESPN2) as I am right now.  It's an incredible day for the fighting game community.

I know that there will be a group of people who object to it, just as there were people who objected when ESPN started showing poker.  But at a basic level, ESPN is about competition, and Street Fighter exemplifies that: this isn't people trading off to see who gets the better score, but instead one-on-one, head-to-head competition.  It is the very essence of what is best about sports: outthinking and adapting to an opponent and imposing your will.

Is/did anyone else here watch it?

I'm not up on the new characters...haven't played since 4...is Charlie the one with links to Guile?  From Alpha?

Yes.  He was supposed to be dead at the end of Alpha, but he is back as some sort of Frankenstein in SF5.
