I was all against the comparison of Landry for a 4th and Taylor for a 3rd, but until someone said for the simple fact that Landry will be FA after next season, Browns wouldn't give up a 3rd cause he could be gone.

Either way, I'm not totally excited about the trade, but I'm kinda indifferent about it at this point.  He wasn't long term in the Dolphins plans cause he's not worth the $14-16M per season he would be asking after this season.

He's a slot WR that put up nice nos. but averaged 10 yds/catch and the attitude late in the season, particularly the Bills game, wasn't good

In the end, it is what it is and the Dolphins front office wasn't gonna pay him long term.  I'm not saying this is a great trade, but we're still gonna come back and watch the Dolphins cause it's our team.

I guess I'm at least the glad that the Browns pick for this year is the first pick in the 4th round instead of towards the end of the 4th round.  I didn't expect them to get a 1st round pick from anyone for him.  But I was hoping for a 2nd or 3rd rounder.  Supposedly several teams were interested in him.  If this was the best offer they got, I would hate to see what Chicago and Baltimore were offering.   The 7th round pick next year is essentially a throw away.   7th round picks almost always are.  (this does not mean I want everyone researching the internet for the rare cases where 7th round picks went on to solid NFL careers)

If we just let Landry walk, what would our compensation pick be?

Hold the phone, don't the Dolphins have to approve any trade? I find it unlikely that Miami takes a 3rd round pick for Landry especially when it was just reported that Landry was gonna sign his tender which would have meant 2 number 1's to sign him. Something isn't right here. Either Miami is getting a whole lot more than a 3rd rounder for Landry or they aren't trading him. I'm not buying these reports.

Yes, Miami has to agree to it.  Keep in mind Landry is a very expensive 1 year slot receiver. What this says is MIA doesn't really want to pay the tag price to keep him one more year, but was smart enough to get more in a tag and trade than they would have in compensatory picks if he left via FA.  Not unlike what NE did with Cassel.

They'd get one more year out of him which is better then they will get with the picks they got. I don't understand it. In my opinion might as well trade Tannehill, release Suh and Wake and draft a QB with the 11th pick and start the rebuild now. Perhaps that's the plan or am I being presumptious that they have a plan.

As far as expensive goes, they just got 3 pro bowls out of the man for a box of chocolates. I think maybe they owed him 1 year for $16 mil. There were plenty of other places to recoup that money. Hell just don't trade for Quinn. They really think acquiring Quinn was more important then keeping Landry for 1 year? Quinn will be gone in a year too.

Between Ross shooting off his mouth again and this trade, I'm gonna find it hard to wear my Dolphins jersey again this year. Maybe it's time for me to start the rebuild process on a new franchise. I'm officially disgusted with them right now and very bitter that I actually believed Gase when he said they were ready to pay him $16 million to play for the Dolphins in 2018. That was a flat out lie.

For a guy who made multiple Pro Bowls, a late third rounder is quite possible.

Unless the dolphins are active in FA, in which case it could be nothing.

*****pure speculation ****

One way this could have gone down.

Landry:  I want to get paid some serious coin to re-sign.

Fins:  we were hoping you would give us a discount to stay.

Landry: Fuck that I either want to have a legitimate shot at a ring or I want top dollar, I am not giving a 6-10 team a discount, I would rather play for a team like NE, Pit, Minn or Phil than Mia.

Fins:  Fuck you, enjoy your time playing for a 0-16 team

Possible.

In the right hands the Browns cap space and draft pick haul is enough to basically turn that team into a contender this season, but in current management's hands? No reason to think they win more than 3.

Yeah, this crossed my mind too.

It seems pretty obvious now that the team wasn't ever that serious about keeping Landry, but the trade value just doesn't seem to be worth the effort of going the franchise tag. Was all this done just so the guy didn't wind up at the Patriots (or maybe the Bills, Jets?)

So as of now, the offensive line is still a leaky patchwork, and in the last six months we traded away our number one running back and number one wide receiver for basically sweet bugger all. God help Tannehill or whomever the starting QB is at the beginning of this season - they will need all the help and prayers they can get!

Basically, the Dolphins traded Jarvis Landry and Jay Ajayi for.....

Robert Quinn, a fourth in 2018, and a seventh in 2019.

Shrewd......

... and the Miami front office wonders why some supporters think they are a bunch of clueless morons while they are steering this once great team into the sewer pond. Up shit creek without a paddle, yeah that's the feeling a lot of us have right now.

Quote
it could make him sour on the Dolphins and leave.

His attitude has been mentioned now, but that wasn't an issue for the first 3 years. Something must have set him off... perhaps how things are handled in MIA

I brought up the article, and mentioned to many of my 'fins buddies, that this could go down poorly back in June '17.

Would anyone be surprised if Landry goes to the Pro Bowl next season and Cleveland puts up the same (or better) record than MIA?

Yep, looks like that is indeed the plan.

By now, Tanny is probably HOPING he gets traded.  Especially since it looks like the Dolphins are going to gut the team and fill the roster with low cost, low talent players.  As if Tanny hasn't gotten beaten up enough over the years with that god-awful offensive line.  Their O-Line this year may make last year's OL look like future Hall of Famers.  The poor kid probably won't survive the first 6 games of the year.
