After a few discussions with my friends, I installed a TOR Browser on my computer and took a peek at a few dark web sites.  It's definitely a scary place.  You can buy legitimate stuff on there at amazing prices, but you can also buy legitimate but unlawful stuff.  Everything you buy, you pay for with Bitcoin.

Have any of you guys checked out the Dark Web?

Hahaha ... probably much safer that way. Fortunately the only illegal items I buy are fireworks and they are now legal in Florida for us farmers protecting our crops from varmints! haha

I always wondered how you even find such a place. Seems like if it was that easy to get to then it's not much of a secret or safe place.

The normal internet seems dark enough for me most of the time...no need to take it to the next level.

I already have TOR installed. The internet seems to work the same. Is there something special you need to do? What kind of legitimate stuff at what prices. Seems to me that if you pay in Bitcoin there is nothing you can do if your stuff never arrives. Maybe I'm missing something...

You can buy all the things you mentioned in parentheses, not to mention drugs, weapons, fake IDs, fake passports, counterfeit money, etc......

TOR will work on normal sites as well, but with TOR, you can go to the .onion sites which are where the Dark Web lies.  The whole point of TOR is that it scrambles and layers your IP address so that they have to peel back layers to find where you really are, and by the time they get halfway done, you're off the web.  Hence it's the Dark Web.  A lot of people in totalitarian countries use it so the government can't track them.

It's called the Dark Web because you can't access those sites through normal means and need a TOR browser.  They are still part of the internet, you just can't google and get there, thus Dark Web.

That's great it scrambles your IP and all, but when you downloaded TOR, you were already flagged, at least that's what most believe.  There isn't anything wrong with having a TOR browser, but I wouldn't risk someone keeping tabs on me.  I can get everything I need off a normal browser, and I want to keep my Bitcoins so I never saw a need for it.

There also isn't anything wrong with searching the sites that sell illegal products as long as you don't buy anything.

I don't fully understand the dark web, honestly.  How do you find websites?  Are there even websites?

Maybe not illegal stuff. But I could see buying grey market items that are tough to find otherwise.

Yeah, that's what I'm talking about. How do you find what you're looking for?
