Not since the days of Don Shula have we been relevant. It's funny, or actually very sad to me, to think we ran Shula out of town because he couldn't get us back to the Super Bowl. Talk about someone who was not appreciated. I'm not sure who those people are but I can assure you they are not in charge of the Dolphins today.

Running off Shula makes zero sense.  It would like NE running out BB.

Not exactly but close. BB still wins Super Bowls. Many of us thought we needed Jimmy Johnson to put us back over the hump and you see how well that worked out.

Sorry but we do need a defensive coordinator. That was more a complete breakdown in coverage then great plays by Indy in the 4th quarter. Guys are running WIDE open even in the endzone. Either the Dolphins have the worst players in the league or the defensive coordinator can't coach. I tend to think it's the latter.

Agreed.  I will admit I was all in on the bandwagon when they signed him.  Then he proceeded to make a really good defense and focked up the offense and offered nothing for Marino in his final years.  This was the biggest travesty for Marino.  The offensive players that Jimmy & Co. gave him:

1996 Draft class
1. Abdul-Karim Al-Jabbar (bust)
2. Stanley Pritchett (bust)
3. Brice Hunter (what???)

1997 Draft class
1. Yatil Green (don't even get me started)

1998 Draft Class
1. John Avery (who?Huh)
2. Larry Shannon

1999 Draft Class
1. J.J. Johnson
2. Rob Conrad (swam a long distance to save his life)
3. Cecil Collins (legal issues)

that's a whole lot of vomit there. About the only thing that JJ did was get Jason Taylor and more than likely Zach Thomas in the HOF

Gase will be around for another year, maybe two, there really is no point in replacing him.  The Dolphins need to hit on drafting two quality long term O-Lineman in 2019 draft.  Then in 2020, they need to bet the entire 2020 draft if necessary to get a QB.  Otherwise they will continue to struggle to produce 7-9 to 9-7 teams.

Shula's time had come to an end.  He was slipping and wasn't in touch with the game anymore.  He had a couple of years left, at most.  So, yeah, his career was probably cut short, but not by any substantial amount.  The thinking was that they wanted to put Marino in the hands of someone they thought might win the Super Bowl while there was still time left.

And Jimmy Johnson was a great get to be that guy.  It just didn't pan out.

And JJ takes a ton of crap, but he built a superb defense that kept us in the conversation for a decade.

Who knew that Jimmy would be tired of coaching in a couple of years and hang em up. Hell I thought he'd STILL be coaching the team today and we might have had at least a couple of Super Bowl appearances. I don't think even Jimmy Johnson realized that it wasn't going to be as easy as it was with Dallas and that he didn't have it in him to rebuild a team like he had with Dallas.

He also didn't have the benefit of a slew of draft picks to play with either.  He could've had he traded Marino but the fans would've probably gone nuts

No question. And he was also a couple more years removed from the college game which I thought he greatly benefited from in Dallas with his draft choices, but still I think we was a better head coach then any we have had since him.

It's two fold I guess. We have two linebackers who may never be able to cover or fill holes like we need. We have a second round tight end that can't block, is slow off the line and not physical enough to get open. We have a 1st round WR that gets hurt tying his shoes and so many failures n the two lines that it isn't funny. Until we get a GM that can evaluate talent, including free agents, it's really hard to decide if Gase is overly conservative due to lack of talent or if that is his natural style.

I agree with pretty much every word of that.
