THE ASSCLOWN AWARD

Sad to say, but Miami must defeat the Patriots next week to have a realistic shot at playing in the postseason.

Baltimore is 7-5

Miami is 6-6

If Baltimore loses to KC and SD, and Miami wins all its games except against New England, Baltimore would take the tiebreaker against Miami, due to record in common games.  If Miami goes 3-1 only losing to the Vikings, Miami would take the tiebreaker due to conference record.

Here are the other contenders:

Tennessee 6-6:  Miami wins the head-to head tiebreaker against them

Indianapolis 6-6: Miami loses the head to head tiebreaker against them.  They will need Indy to lose to Houston, and then one of Tennessee or Dallas

Denver 6-6:  Miami needs them to lose to the Chargers.  If they do, they would have a worse conference record than Miami.

I have to agree, next week is a must win for the Dolphins to make the playoffs.  In reality Miami has to win all four of their remaining games to make the playoffs; 9 wins will not get Miami in, unless several teams blow some games.

If Dolphins lose, NE clinches the division.

This is how much garbage the AFC East has been since 2001. If the 6-5 team loses, the division is over.

Miami is 6-6, and two other 6-6 teams are in the same position: if IND or CAR lose next week, their divisions will also be clinched.  (LAR has already clinched.)

Seems to me that the real garbage divisions are the ones with 7-win teams in first place.  SEA has already been eliminated from division contention, but they'd be T-1st in the NFC East.
