Of Course Cowboys over Colts is obvious

But what about the other games?

Tennesee to lose would be another smart choice.

That gets tricky because in a three way tie with Mia, Indy, and Tenn, Mia wins.

Not according to the ESPN's NFL playoff machine, it depends on how they all get to 9-7. If MIA, Indy and Tenn all finish 9-7 with Miami and Indy both winning their last 2 and Tennesee winning it's first 2 Indy is in and Mia and Tenn are out. The more that Tennesee and Indy lose the better it is for Miami. Unfortunately they can't both lose week 17 although they could tie that game and that could be good for Miami. Either Tennesse losing this weekend to the Giants or Indy losing to the Giants next weekend would be good for Miami regardless of what Miami does. If Indy loses both this weekend to the Cowboys and then loses to the Giants next weekend and Tennesse loses to the Giants this weekend or to the Redskins next week then it doesn't matter who wins between Indy and Tenn in week 17 as long as Miami wins it's last 2 games they will make the playoffs unless the Ravens go 3-0 and the Steelers go 2-1 or better. So it would be good to root for New England to beat the Steelers this weekend unless you think Miami can go 3-0 and the Patriots could go 1-2.

MIA doesn't necessarily need to go 3-0 to win the division... they can go 2-1 if NE completely collapses and loses the last 3 (4 straight to end the season).   Roll Eyes

If MIA and NE finish with the same record, MIA will either win on division tiebreaker or conference tiebreaker.  So NE's magic number is 2; if there are less than two Patriot wins or Dolphin losses in the rest of the season, MIA wins the AFCE.  A tall order, I know.

Tampa needs to beat Baltimore
Dallas needs to beat Indy
New England needs to beat Pittsburgh

I think the only given is New England as they were thoroughly embarrassed by last weeks game. I'd hate to be the Steelers this weekend.

Interesting.   I can see the logic in rooting for a collapse of the Steelers and the ravens winning the division opens up the 6th spot.  However I was surprised to see it with the division a theoretical possibility

But then again things are strange when I am hoping the jets win

Right.  ...but that's very unlikely.  And also, you gotta do you.  I don't think we'd be upset if we won the last 3 and didn't get in.  You just gotta handle your business.

i'd much rather win the next 3 and see NE lose the next 3 and win the division and get the 3 seed and host a playoff game

At that point, it'd have been the last 5...  Still not upset, sitting 5-6 and winning-out and missing the playoffs at 10-6?

To me that's a bitter pill to swallow...

Honest question: Would you rather go 1-2 to close the year, but due to a bizarre set of circumstances, make the playoffs as the 6 seed -- OR -- go 3-0 to end the season and miss the playoffs at 10-6?

the first one because, while its not glamorous, once you're in the playoffs, anything can happen.
