I wonder if this guy even gets it that his little stunt was a huge disservice to people who are actually attacked due to their sexual orientation, race, or political stances or if he is just so self absorbed that he doesn't even care.   At least in the short term while this is still fresh on everyone's mind, true victims are going to be looked at with skepticism.

Heard he is going to say the drugs made him do it .... hahaha. Being a drug addict should get him the sympathy court of public opinion.

When the story first came out about him getting beaten up, I felt really bad for him.  Now I kind of hope someone does kick his ass just for being such a douchenozzle.

I mean...that's how it's supposed to work.

When bad things happen to people, you treat them as victims...when you find out they are the cause, you treat them as criminals, which is exactly what happened here.

People who defended him initially are correct.  They had every reason to believe a hate crime occured.  Those same people who are now chastizing him are also correct when the truth comes out are also correct.  ...nothing to see here.

You don't have to initially believe anyone. You do need to take the claim seriously which is entirely different. You can cause a lot of extra harm by blindly defending someone.

I just disagree with this.  I think you need to believe victims at first.  Mental care is at stake.  It doesn't mean pitchforks for the accused....they need to have their fair chance to defend themselves, but start with the assumption that the victim is telling the truth.

I disagree Dave.  I think it needs to start as a "concerning situation", not giving a bias of belief one way or another, and as facts come out, judgements can be made.

Edit: just read what Phish said, I agree with him.

I think it depends on your own personal perspective. If the person making the accusation is a friend or relative then you need to believe them from the start ... assuming they are a credible person. It's kind of your job to be a little over sympathetic IMO. If you don't know them or they might have ulterior motives then I think you need to do your due diligence before casting doubt on the accused. Either way you need to investigate the claims before anyone is "judged". How many instances have we seen in the last couple of years where what is initially claimed is not the truth? Seems like a ton.

So true...  In Trump's case, I wouldn't be at all surprised to learn that half of all the women who claim he groped/fondled, ogled or otherwise sexually abused them were actually making false claims.

That's not really the half I'm concerned with, though. Wink

I seriously hope you aren't thinking about Trump as much as it comes across.

Yes, THEY think about him that much. The last election caused a new psychiatric disorder called TDS. Towards the end of the disease they all go fucking insane, babble about non sense, and get violent.

I mean, the R's probably think of Hillary more than every other person in America thinks of Trump. Of course, if Trump and his voting base weren't idiots, we'd actually have a functioning government. So many goodies happening in the Cohen hearing right now. But, I'm sure his voting base (you two) don't even know who he is and why this is a big deal.

Republicans probably think about Hilary way more than they should, but it pales in comparison to the left and Trump.  You really can't compare the two.

Cohen, I'm watching it live.  Everyone not under a rock knows who Cohen is, so I don't see the point of your childish insult.  I see a smear job with no substance, if you want to call those "goodies".  For someone that was his "fixer" I was expecting something much worse. Everything he's mentioned is old hat (Trump had an affair with a porn star, Trump is a racist).  Most importantly, he has denied any collusion.  It reeks of grasping at straws.

The D focus on Trump is comparable to the R’s focus on Obama when Obama was in office.  The POTUS is part the news cycle and has been a staple of late night TV for eons.

OTOH the R’s focus on Hillary two years after the election is unprecedented.  Romney, McCain, Kerry, Gore, Dole, etc were rarely mentioned by the POTUS after the election and when mentioned it was either complementary or neutral.

^I don't disagree with this, and I'll add that Republicans focus on Hillary has to do with illegal allegations, and her constant whining after she lost, something you didn't really hear from the candidates you mentioned.

EDIT:  It's not just the right still talking about her.  This is from today:
