Robin Ventura was a pretty good ball player, but people only remember the ass whoopin' he took from Nolan Ryan.

I remember that. I'm a Chicago White Sox fan and really loved Robin Ventura. Was a great player and also a great guy. Even that play was not really his idea. There was a fued brewing between the White Sox and Rangers and apparently the White Sox got together and they all agreed that if one of them got struck with a pitch they were going to charge the mound no matter what. Well the next day sure enough Ventura was struck with a pitch and charged the mound even though it was clear that he really didn't want to. Apparently no one told Nolan Ryan that Venture really didn't want to scrap and just whooped him. Poor Robin. He didn't even want to be out there and was getting the crap beat out of him by old man Nolan Ryan. LOL

But do word association for Tiger Woods and only  an insignificant fraction would bring up the car crash.

Not here in Central Florida. It was a defining moment.

It is one of the first things anyone brings up. It definitely defined him. How could the guy we didn't even know be defined by it?

The spirit of this thread is one play, or I'd even say one incident.  Nolan Ryan is regarded as the best pitcher of all time, has the most strikeouts all time and beat Robin Ventura's ass once.

Robin Ventura is known for one thing, getting his ass beat by Nolan Ryan.

Perhaps, although he is a HOFer so there is more to his career.  But, when I think of Brett I think of three things: the pine tar incident, his quest for .400 batting average in 1980, and those ugly powder blue uniforms the Royals wore in those days.
