The best show on TV right now is Watchmen on HBO.  It's incredible.  However, I think that you really, REALLY get a lot more from it if you're familiar with the original comic and even the movie that follows it.  Though the narrative works without all that stuff, the story is a mystery and you have to do a lot of work to follow it, even if you know what's going on.  The references to the original story help and there are even meta references to our own pop culture and the Watchmen movie.  It's a lot going on.  But the show really respects the audience and doesn't spoon-feed you every little thing.  It's awesome.

I am really enjoying the Mandelorian, but I think it's more "popcorn" TV.  Fun, enjoyable, easy to watch.  Doesn't take a lot of investment.

I have been working my way through The Great British Baking Show on Netflix.  Pretty standard cooking show, except everyone, from the hosts, to the judges, to the contestants is supportive and likable.  I've been putting it on around bedtime a lot, because it's just so wholesome.

Various Disney+ programs -- The World According to Jeff Goldbloom, The Imagineering Story.  Documentary style stuff that's pretty straightforward and interesting.

Gonna start season 3 of the Crown pretty soon.

I have started watching The Irishman but have to do it in chunks. I haven't heard anyone say they did it in one sitting.

I did.  Pretty good movie, even though it's a bit slow.

Mandalorian...catching up on a few old Rick & Morty episodes from season 3...looking into adding HBO to my Hulu account so I can watch the Watchmen.

Other than that...football, football and more football.

I find "The Wokemen" almost unwatchable.  I really like The Watchmen movie and comic, and there are trace enough of those elements for me to see where the story goes.

I've seen all of them so far.

Spoilers:

I liked the backstory with "mirror guy" and the giant alien squid, that got me to keep watching, along with Ozymandias's story.  The latest thing that Dr. Manhattan was her husband the whole time was a nice twist.  I hate that Rorschach has been turned into a white supremacy symbol, and all the other political garbage associated with the show.  The first superhero was a black guy...okay that's fine, it sets up a decent origin story that he had to hide it and pretend to be a white guy....who happened to be gay....hmm okay?  Who's fucking a blonde hair blue eyed white guy in the ass.  It comes off as less "Watchmen" and more "Wokemen".  It's like White supremacist Neo-Nazis have become the new "Russians" or "Muslim Extremists" from the 9/11 era as the catch all bad guy.  I could probably name a dozen shows or movies that have taken this narrative, and it's unrealistic, even for an alternate reality.

I don't read this the same as you do.

Rorshach has always been a super far right militant...what essentially became the alt-right.  The movie does less for that, but it's undeniable in the comics.  He's anti homosexual, blames liberal values for the fall of the country, etc.  But even in the show, the white supremacists are painted as victims and pointing to the false flag attack as a way for liberals to hold on to control.  The liberal leadership has over-reached and doesn't come out looking good, either.  I think the show is very critical of the edges of the political spectrum and is portraying the far right rising up as a reaction to the far left taking full control.

And in terms of the gay thing.  That was especially interesting because it showed that all of those characters and supposed woke idealogies were hypocrites when it came to actually helping.

It's funny that you think the show is woke, because I think it's very critical of both political extremes...maybe liberals moreso, though.

I'll try to watch the rest of it from your point of view as well and we'll see if any opinions change by the end of the season.

I appreciate that you're willing to try to approach it through a different lens.

I am loving the show.

Funny enough, I thought the most recent twist reveal was one of the weaker ones.  I think that the Hooded Justice stuff....particularly the media portraying it one way (and then it playing in reverse, in actuality, so the media story was backwards) was pretty brilliant.

And that there are trigger warnings on TV, because everything is liberal-controlled.  Good shit.

Watchmen did pull the nose up a bit and got better, but I still stand by a lot of the the other things I said that made it bad.  I have mixed feelings about it.
