NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports the Dolphins are gauging the price to trade up for the No. 3 overall pick for an offensive tackle.

The nonsense is coming hot and heavy now, might as well make it's own thread for it. The idea that we want to trade up to #3 is very reasonable. However, the idea we will do that for an OT when we will probabyl have first crack at one at #5 if we don't want a QB? Hysterical. Might as well say we will draft a punter.

I would spend a 7th round pick on Punter Braden Mann from Texas A&M and cut Haack as a salary move and upgrade at Punter.  Oh wait, that isn't a BS rumor.  That is just something that I would actually do.  Grin

I agree with the OP's take on the Fins moving up to #3 for an OT though.

Why move up to #3 to grab an OT when you are at #5 and odds are have the first crack at any of them? Redskins going with Chase, Lions going for the CB and Giants going for Simmons. MAYBE they take Andrew Thomas but if so, select one of the other 3 studs. This of course is assuming we have no plans to improve from our 38 year old journeymen QB.

Yeah, this trade up for an OT talk is nonsense.  There are 4 almost sure fire franchise tackles in this draft, with many others as possible franchise tackles with the right coaching.  To give up precious draft capital for any of those OTs is smokescreen to the max.

What they may be trying to do is move up to #3 without giving up #5 which will get them a franchise OT and a QB.  That I can see them doing.

I assume the price for that is the 18th and 26th pick. That's a steep price for the best LT when you can still get a franchise LT at #18 or maybe even McKinney at Safety with 18. If we can get the #3 pick with or 26th pick and a 2nd rounder, then maybe it's worth it. All depends on price.....and hoping that the Giants don't take him at #4. We would have to take Tua at #3 just to play it safe, can't pick Thomas at #3 and then the Giants trade down with the Chargers and we're screwed.

Moving to #3 to take an offensive tackle would have to be considered Trubisky-like in its idiocy...

It's only okay if we somehow keep the 5th pick and only lose our 18th and maybe a late 2nd rounder, but the Lions would be dumb to take that. So, this is why it's nonsense.

Yes, I was agreeing with you that they should not move up to #3 in order to take an OT when they will have one of the top 2 available to them at #5 and that it was a ludicrous draft rumor that they would do that.

This is what they are supposedly doing. The other flip to this is possibly packaging the 3 & 5 to Cincy.

The other big rumor is Miami is looking to trade for Joe Thuney from New England. He is under the franchise tag but the Dolphins would be looking to sign him.

Either way Miami is heavy into the rumors today.

If we get the 3 and 5, I would keep them. That's way too steep a price to pay for Burrow. While the 3 & 5 would be awesome, I would be terrified of picking Thomas first in case some team trades with the Giants for Tua, then what do we do? On the flip side, you pick Tua first to secure him and there is a decent chance the Giants pick Thomas. Then what? Do we love any of the o0ther OL guys so much more than who we could've gotten at 18?

Probably not a B.S. rumor here but Adam Scjefter is reporting that Miami has tried in recent weeks to get the #1 pick from Cincinnati and the Bengals are basically refusing. So, that should be that. I don't see any team with even the ammo to make an offer better than ours so Cincy is staying put.

There isn't a tackle worth a top-5 pick in this class, imo... Miami would be better off staying where they are, grabbing Tua at 5 and then whichever of the tackles slips to #18...and yes, at least one of the top-5 OTs will slide to #18.

Even if they don't, we can grab McKinney at 18 and still get a good Tackle at 26.

Most drafts have the LTs going quick since they are a typically a solid pick. The top few are predicted to be elite and then there is a large drop off.
