I doubt he was cut solely for this.  He probably wasn't very good and also wasn't following rules.  You can only break the rules if you're good enough or else an example will be made of you.

Exactly. If they used a 3rd rounder on him, he gets a small fine and punished internally. Undrafted and didn't play a game yet? Goodbye.

Though to be fair, if you are an undrafted rookie, your head has to be 100% on the team and his clearly wasn't.

What a dumbass.  When you are an undrafted rookie, you better be studying the playbook every moment that you aren't practicing and essentially eating, sleeping, and breathing football when you are in camp.  A team has essentially nothing invested in you when you are undrafted.
