Wow, did not see this coming. 100% deserved, he ruined this franchise for years to come but management gave him total control so I didn't think they would drop him. He is the GM as well so they need to fill that position too.

Hopefully, this doesn't motivate the players to do better. I want my Top 5 pick.

For years, O'Brien has been a turd that wouldn't flush.  How he lasted this long is a total mystery.  My best friend and his wife and another good buddy of mine are huge Texans fan and they are all celebration drinking tonight.

It will be very soon for them as well, but I didn't think he would be the first to go, not after ownership gave him absolute power.

Same here, I was surprised that O'Brien was the first to go. Like you said, especially since he was given so much power over the team.   We probably won't wait too long before Gase and Quinn join him on the unemployment line though.

This is juicy. Apparently, JJ Watt confronted O'Brien in the lockerroom in front of everyone about his shitty coaching and it got heated. This was last week. He got the veterans on his side because he is JJ Watt and the players respect him. So, they lose this week and everyone had enough.

I don't think he ever coaches again, too much of an asshole who knows how to weasel his way into power. No GM would ever be comfortable hiring him for anything, nor would a head coach.

Other thing to consider is that this may motivate the players and hurt our draft picks. Let's hope a Week 6 loss to the Titans drops them to 1-5 and depression sets in.

Several players from the Titans broke NFL protocols and had an unauthorized workout at a high school, which is what caused the additional COVID cases.  Word is, the NFL is coming down on them with an iron fist.  They may have multiple players suspended.   Additionally, they may be forced to forfeit their game against the Steelers.  Right now, playing the Titans in week 7 will hurt the Steelers badly in week 8 against the Ravens because they now are forced to take their bye early, then get the Ravens who are going to be coming off a bye.

Stupid protocols better not hurt our draft picks or I will complain online.

Texans named executive VP of football operations Jack Easterby as the team's new interim General Manager.

I was just thinking that the Texans are in purgatory right now, they are 0-4 with a small chance at the playoffs. Even that, they weren't a contender anyway due to O'Brien's stupidity. They can't rebuild because they have no draft picks.

What do they do? Move forward as is and hope for some 9-7 seasons or trade off assets ala Miami and start a rebuild that takes at least 3 years to get back to 9-7?

Starting to think Belichick calls every defensive and offensive play and his coordinators are just for show. How else can you explain all of his assistants and coordinators being shit?

Would make sense considering everyone portrays him as a micromanaging dictator. No respectable person with an opinion would put up with that for very long.

I think back to this quote by Farve “MY CONTRACT DOESN’T SAY I HAVE TO GET AARON RODGERS READY TO PLAY, ....THERE IS NO CLAUSE THAT SAYS ‘YOU GROOM THE NEXT GUY WHO’S GOING TO TAKE YOUR JOB, OR ELSE.’ IT DOESN’T WORK THAT WAY.”

Belichick’s job isn’t to groom future head coaches, its to fill Kraft’s trophy case with Lombadies.  By that metric he is doing a fine job.

Very true, but it doesn't seem to be about grooming them to be future head coaches so much as that they are just ordinary schmucks who are riding his coattails and get exposed on their own.

Let's hope Brian Flores is not the next one.

I don’t think it is quite that simple.

I think there are multiple factors:

1.  HC requires skills and knowledge not required to be an outstanding coordinator.  And being using the limited time to teach those skills won’t help win games for BB he doesn’t waste his time on it.  Other head coaches might be more willing to start a discussion, “here is something you might need to know when you become a head coach “.

2. They try to copy his techniques without understanding the logic behind it, thus it doesn’t work.

3. There are things BB can say and do to a player discipline or critiquewise and the player will respect it, because if the greatest coach in the game says it it must be true.  But if a first year coach with a 2-5 record says the exact same thing the response is, “fuck you, you clueless fool”. BB has a credibility the others don’t have but they act like they have earned it and that comes across as arrogant.
