This order was issued YESTERDAY and goes into effect Jan 26.

How the fuck is this first happening now?  This is what should have been done on Jan 31 instead of banning based on nationality.

There is no reason for not doing it months ago.  And cynically I can only assume that the reason for finally doing it was political so Biden can’t announce such logical and reasonable plan on 1/20.

Yeah, good idea.

Might make sense to do it at certain State levels, too.

Yeah, I was in shock when I read it.  I assumed it had been in place for months.

Or we're going to be winning all the sickness...

Most cases, most deaths.  In fact we have more deaths than next two countries combined.  We are number #1. USA USA USA.

I think that would be rather difficult to enforce. I know that would be a logistics nightmare for Southwest. What if you have a plane that takes off in Texas and has a stop in Missouri before going to North Carolina and there's a ban in place in Missouri but not in North Carolina? Can you get on the plane in Texas if you're going to North Carolina and don't have a test? Do you have to have a test anyway? What if the ban is for North Carolina? Everyone has to have a test to get on in Texas or everyone has to get off the plane in Missouri and then get back on only if you have a test? I'm not sure how you would handle all of this. Not sure the airports are even equipped to handle all of that.

I agree.  State by state makes no sense. Although it would not be that hard, if destination requires a test and you don’t have proper paperwork = no boarding pass. But either require it on a national level for all air travelers or not at all.

IRCC the idea of requiring ALL fliers to have a negative test was rejected because the projected increase in auto travel that such a requirement would cause and thus increase in auto accidents would negate the covid benefits.  While I am not sure if I afree with that.  I assumed the rule existed for international travel which most countries had and the driving issue doesn’t exist.

I assumed Dave meant across all 50 states, not each state individually. Very easily enforced that way.

Might as well just shut down the airlines then. You realize that they are losing millions of dollars a day already. If you do this every airline would go out of business.

How so?

Get a negative test within 48 hours of boarding...no big deal.  Lots of people are doing that anyway.

It's just a suggestion to stop spread and find extra cases.

Since a couple weeks ago, Hawaii has been requiring a negative test within 48 hours of landing in Hawaii.  Hawaii has changed their policy like crazy over the last 8 months.  We are supposed to go to Maui in March and I'm sure it will change again by then.

I have no pity for the airlines, not one bit.
To quote Dolf Lundgren as Ivan Drago "if he dies, he dies"

They could have used the many years of fat profits and milk and honey to put their companies into a strong state able to weather the the storms of COVID, instead they decided to use these profits on stock buybacks and bonuses. So fuck them. Let them go bankrupt, I'm sure there are better run companies that will buy their equipment for pennies on the dollar and restructure their assets and routes in a better run way. These are the free market principles that i hear all those Ayn Rand types are all about.  And if you think that's harsh and you're for some sort of government intervention to "save" these companies, then congratulations, you're a socialist.
