THE ASSCLOWN AWARD

« on: February 02, 2021, 11:53:31 am »

During social isolation time, I began watching youtube videos about construction.  Some of the stuff is mind-boggling.

For example, the tallest building in the world is the Burj Khalifa.  Here's a video of people cleaning it.  They wear harnesses.  I wonder if they wear parachutes as well.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wcRuXrduj6Q  I got weak and nervous just WATCHING that video.  I can only imagine BUILDING it.  Who would volunteer to build such a project?

Amazingly, even larger buildings are planned for the future.

This video shows how they build bridges underwater.  It's amazing to me that they have divers who do construction work underwater.  How can they possibly know if their work is adequate?

Some tunnels are even built underwater.  This is mind boggling to me.

What is the tallest building you've ever been to the top of?  For me, it was the Prudential building, when I went to the Top of the Hub before it closed.  I left right away because the prices were exorbitant.

This stuff is cool.

I am not the "go to the top of the building" type of guy....not because I'm afraid or anything...I just don't give a shit, especially not to pay for it.  I have been at or near the Willis Tower and One World Trade.

For me it was the World Trade Center.  I was visiting NYC with friends and we had planned to go to the Statue of Liberty, but it was a hot 90 degree day and there was a long waiting line.  The line for the WTC was also long, but it was inside and air conditioned.

Here's a video of people climbing a communications tower that will put hair on your chest:

I find the construction marvel stuff pretty cool too.   Heights never used to bother me, but oddly enough now that I am old they do a little bit.  When I was in high school, I worked at a drug store with really high ceilings and I would climb this rickety ass ladder to change the fluorescent bulbs in the ceiling when they went out.  I would fly up that thing and instead of climbing down, I would grab the outside rails of the ladder and slide down without using the steps.  Now if I'm on a ladder at home and my feet are only about 5 feet off the ground I get all shaky and worry that I'm going to bust ass.  LOL
