Just keep in mind that Tunsil was rated just as highly as Sewell coming out of college, if not higher.  Did you feel comfortable and satisfied with the Dolphins OL 2 years ago?

Unfortunate for them that the year they get to pick 4th is the year that the 3 teams ahead of them are all going QB. Never before has a QB gone in the first 4 picks, but history is working against them now. They could draft Ryan's replacement and sit him 2 years but that's only if they are cool with drafting the 4th best QB which will be Fields or Lance.

On the flip side, the chances of ATL picking as high as 4th before Matt Ryan retires are... not very good.  So Fields or Lance are going to be a better pick than any other QB the Falcons can draft in the next 3 years (unless they give up a bunch of assets to move up).

I'm not bringing Tunsil up to criticize the trade to HOU.  SF ended all doubt of that, even for me.

I'm bringing him up because there are some who believe Sewell is a franchise-altering player... but many of you didn't seem to feel that way after a couple of years of Tunsil, who was as least as good of a prospect as Sewell.  And it's not like Tunsil was a bust.

No, he really wasn't a better prospect...he wasn't even as good a prospect.

Yeah, Tunsil was projected to make the Pro Bowl in his career. Sewell is projected to make the Pro Bowl every year.

If projecting college careers into the NFL was a science, there would be no "busts".    Even the NFL team experts get it wrong all the time.  For the rest of us, it just pure speculation at the least to a fairly educated guess at the best.  Outside of the few draftees who are either superstars from day one or complete flameouts from day one, it takes at least a couple years to determine how good a rookie is the vast majority of the time.  That is part of why I'm not a fan of so many people ragging on the OL guys we drafted last year.  Offensive linemen are hardly ever dominant in their rookie year.  By the end of this season we will start to have a decent idea of how good or bad the OL guys that the Fins drafted last year actually are.  Everybody is kind of down on Robert Hunt from last year.  Dude has the skills but he played at a small school (Louisiana Lafayette) and had never been up against even big school defenses, much less NFL defenses.  He may or may not develop into a stud, but you can't give up on a rookie after just one year when he has skills who came from a small school.

Hunt was actually a pretty good RT the last 6 weeks of the season. If we added no one to the line, I feel they would still be better due to maturing and playing together. That being said, Sewell at RT is an absolute monster and would ensure that we have LT and RT locked up for at least the next 4 seasons at a below market value. Considering what Tackles go for these days, you have to factor that into your draft decisions.

I agree.  I didn't mean to infer that I didn't want them to take Sewell.  I'd still prefer that they a more glaring positional need with their first pick though.  I'd love to see them take a developmental OT in the mid rounds though because I think this draft is deep at OT and there are some guys that aren't real high on the radar who I think have a lot of potential.  For example, Dan Moore from Texas A&M, Radunz from N Dakota St., Hudson from Cincinnatti, Ealy from Oklahoma, or Forsythe from Florida.

At the end of the day, I think Atlanta and Cincy is going to make our draft pick for us. I think the Falcons take Pitts and the Bengals take Sewell, leaving us with Chase who we may have drafted at #3 anyway. If Atlanta goes QB or trades it to a team who does, then it becomes Chase vs. Pitts.

You know how us sports fans are.  If we get one of our draft predictions right out of the 80 that we make, we will be on here saying, "I told you bitches!  Wooooo!" (rick flair imitation) 

BTW, I think Vera-Tucker is going to be really good if he moves inside from Tackle to Guard.  Just sayin'.  LOL

If the Falcons/Bengals take Chase and Pitts off the board, we will be getting offers at 6 from desperate teams who want to take whoever is left of Fields/Trey Lance. We could be taking Michah Parsons at 14 when all is said and done for all we know.

That's always my fear and why I'm only cautiously optimistic with our picks.

Tunsil was rated a 94 by ESPN.  Sewell is rated a... 94 by ESPN.  Furthermore, while Sewell's scouting reports say he still needs to work on his strength at the next level, Tunsil was considered a complete player.

But maybe I'm wrong.  What professional sources say Sewell is a better prospect than Tunsil was?

The bottom line is that neither Tunsil nor Sewell are considered the absolute brick wall of a prospect that, say, Jake Long (rated 98) was.  So if you weren't wowed by Tunsil when he was a Dolphin, you shouldn't expect much more from Sewell.

You may as well say Devante Parker was as highly rated as Ja'Marr Chase.

For the record, Parker was rated a 92, while Chase is rated a 94.
