I thought maybe Spider could answer this for me.

I've been gaming a long time and there are often shortages when something new launches, but this seems worse.  Both of these things have been out for half a year and I've never even seen either one of them.  And I think they had preorders, too.

It doesn't really matter -- I'm not even in the market for one, but someone in my family has been trolling for one for months and months and finally locked one down yesterday.

On top of it, I think the marketing of the systems has been poor, as well as XBOX's naming convention....but that's a different story.

Heard it was due to manufacturing issues with small pieces. However, I still think that is ridiculous. If you don't have enough units for launch, don't release the product. I wantd one despite not really being a gamer, they didn't have a PS5 so I got a Switch instead and am quite happy with it.

Because the parts and materials are made elsewhere. It impossible to order boats and other recreation things for the same reason. I know people who ordered boats over 9 months ago and it hasn't even gone to production yet and many others that are sitting and waiting on motors.
