I was reading about The Last Temptation of Christ today, which I've never seen, but it piques my interest.  Scorcese is working on another religious film now.  He also did that one a couple of years ago about the priests with Adam Driver.  I never saw that one either.

I also have wanted, but haven't seen The Passion of the Christ.

I do like a Rom Com that's pretty religious called "Keeping the Faith"...wasn't great or anything.
And there's a movie called Millions that I like a lot that isn't specifically about religion, but it's about kids and imagining stuff and one of them is very interest in Saints, so it plays a big part of the movie.

I've also less interested in a movie from a few years ago called Noah.   But I'd give it a shot I guess.

Anyone seen any of this stuff enough to recommend?

The Passion of the Christ was good

The Ten Commandments is a classic

The Righteous Gemstones is a mini series that's pretty funny, adult humor.

The prince of Egypt is a cartoon about Moses and the Pharoh it was okay.

Life of Brian counts as a religious movie, it's good monte python humor.

Bruce Almighty / Evan Almighty are okay for family comedies.

The Passion of the Christ is very good, gripping movie.  It's not in english so you are reading subtitles but it's not that distracting, you just have to watch it like you're in a theater where people are not talking and distracting you.  Mel Gibson directed it and got a lot of backlash because some Jewish organizations said it unfairly portrayed Jews.

Son of God was one I watched that doesn't seem to get much attention.  I enjoyed it.

Subtitles are no problem for me.  I watch with subtitles on even when I watch stuff in English.

And I'm not trying to stray from controversy -- It's actually what draws me to the films in the first place.   I'm not a religious guy.  I don't believe any of this stuff, movie or not -- but I do like stories.  I consider this stuff similar to how I'd approach historical fiction.

Probably my favorite movie that involves religion is Kingdom of Heaven, about the crusades and the old conflict between Christians an Muslims.

I've been waiting for someone to say Religulous.

I'm an Atheist, but that movie was hit and miss for me.  I think that I'm probably not the audience, so I didn't need to be converted.

My favorite stuff in that film was the Judaism stuff.

Same here, it was pretty much "preaching to the choir" (pun intended) for me since I was already an atheist.  But it kind of made me feel a little a little more secure in feeling totally disgusted by organized religion.

As an atheist, what makes you want to watch religious films?

I am not into getting preached at, so I'm not in it for that, but I realize that religion of all types is an important part of the overall human experience.  I'm interested in the Passion of the Christ the same way I'm interested in The Iliad.  I think the stories are interesting -- I like historical fiction, in general.

And I also like movies that show me sides of life of which I'm not a part.

It might make me sound dim, but I like Westerns a lot, but have no interest in being a Cowboy or anything that goes along with it.  It's the same idea.
