I was fine with both our picks.  I was picking guys and I didn't choose either of these two in the moment, but I chose the same position both times.  I think that we checked some areas of need and since I'm not a talent scout, I'm not worried about one guy vs. the other.

I think that Pitts was probably the big pick of the draft and once you lost out on him, a lot of these guys would've been good for us.

I wonder, had we not traded back up from 12, what our selection choices would've been.

I literally was dancing around my TV when they announced the pick. I expected Fields, but would have been totally happy with either Fields or Lance.

There was a run on OTs last night but Jenkins, Radunz, and Eichenberg are still there for the Dolphins to grab.  However, knowing that Greer has a chubby for Bama players, don't be surprised to see him pick DT Barmore.  That kid is a beast in the middle and him plus Phillips instantly upgrade the D-Line.

If one of the three mentioned tackles drops to the middle of the second round, you gotta take him, even if Javonte Williams is there.

There was a run on OTs last night but Jenkins and Eichenberg are still there for the Dolphins to grab.  However, knowing that Greer has a chubby for Bama players, don't be surprised to see him pick Barmore.  That kid is a beast in the middle and him plus Phillips instantly upgrade the D-Line.

There will not be a Center or top end RB left by the time we pick at 50, so unless we package some picks to move up, we are going to choose between Center or RB. Maybe even O-Line too depending on who is left. I just don't see RB being picked by us, maybe if Harris was still around but he isn't so it's probably Center which is more helpful for our running game anyway.

At the end of the day, we traded Chase/Pitts for Waddle and a 2023 1st Rounder that is likely to be in the 20's. Right now, if we offered Waddle and the draft pick to Cincy for Chase, would they take it? Would Atlanta? That tells you that we lost the trade.

We are still a better team than before with Waddle, much better actually, but we took an L on this trade back and trade up.

Yeah, you are spot-on with this. The fact that we passed over Smith for Waddle who had a fair spell injured last season says to me that playing a good chunk in 2020 wasn't a deciding factor - in effect Sewell, Smith and Parsons were never really on our team's radar (even though some of us thought they should be).

In two years time we will be judging if we should have stuck with #3 and grabbed Pitts/Chase, or we did better with Waddle and the Niner's 2023 1st.

So......the Broncos really passed on Justin Fields because they were comfortable at QB now that they got Bridgewater? I get a feeling a lot of these teams who picked Top 10 will be there again next year just based off of how they picked. Inexplicable.

I don't buy it. Rumors were flying before and during the draft they were ready to throw everything and the kitchen sink to get Rodgers.

Even though the Packers are saying he's not up for trade, it still could happen.

Etienne being picked right after Harris scares the hell out of me, because there's a chance Williams will be gone before our pick at #36. There's no way he lasts until #50. If we do miss out on him, this will be two years in a row we miss out on the RB we should be getting because we are being to smart (ie. dumb) for our own good... if we really wanted Harris we should have bit the bullet and got him at #18. Now we're shitting broken glass hoping Williams will still be there for us...

Which is a dilemma in itself, because we still have to address the linebacker situation - it's been a weakness for too long, specifically a guy to cover tight ends which has killed us over and over again, highlighted yet again against the Raiders last season.

Then there's the issue of a possible upgrade at C, Humphrey may be there at #50, but he could be gone well before then too...

Your comment of "shitting broken glass" gave me a good laugh.  That is a pretty good way of putting it and I agree with you.  They better hope that Williams is there at #36 tonight.  I also agree with you about LB being a weakness that has been there for too long.  I think they put a Band Aid on the Center position by signing Matt Skura and I'm not too crazy about any of the Centers coming out this year so maybe they can hold off another year before drafting a Center.  Like many teams, I think this year the Dolphins are suffering from a few too many critical need areas and not enough early round picks to address them all.  I think that WR and Edge Rusher were the two biggest needs so at least they addressed both of those positions last night.  Hopefully the addressed them with impact players.

Possibly but the time to trade Rodgers was before the draft. Now, the highlight of the trade will be draft picks a year from now, unless they throw in Surtain who they just drafted but I don't know if that is even allowed so early.

If Waddle turns out even a little bit like Tyreek Hill... and Phillips puts his rap career on hold and wears really thick helmets...Miami could end up with two excellent players.

That said, I probably did several hundred mock drafts for Miami leading up to last night, and I never once selected Waddle, and maybe once or twice for Phillips. I was fairly flummoxed when they announced both.  When Pitts-Chase went, I was almost positive that the pick would be Smith or Sewell.


A couple of quality picks early tonight at 36/50... I am crossing fingers for any of the following:

RB Williams
OC Humphrey or Dickerson
OT: Sam Cosmi or Teven Jenkins
OG: Wyatt Davis or Quinn Meinerz
CB: Tyson Campbell or Assante Samuel jr.
S: Trevon Moehrig or (possibly at #50), Jevon Holland
ILB: JOK or (possibly at #50), Chazz Surratt*
OLB: Azeez Ojulari

* If Miami takes Chazz Surratt, I want them to expend a late rounder on his brother, WR Sage Surratt. I kinda like the idea of having a brother tandem on the roster for some unknown reason.

Rodgers timing of the announcement really gave teams no time to plan for this or manoeuvre before the draft.

If a team jumped it would pour all of their months of draft planning down the drain, so it was pretty unlikely it would happen before today (unless one was in negotiations well in advance of Rodgers dropping the bomb). I thought Denver may have been an outside chance before the draft - that's not to say it still couldn't happen now.

I always thought it was more likely negotiations would start after - it could be a deal with future firsts and seconds, current starters or a mix of both. Once upon a time freshly drafted players were able to be traded immediately (Elway, Rivers, Eli) although I'm not sure if that's still the case. Draft day has become a huge televised event now, it would make a bit of a mockery of all the fanfare when it happens.

That versatile Notre Dame linebacker is still out there. I really think we need to move both picks up and get him and the best RT or Center available and basically call it a draft. This is a loaded draft, I would rather not hold onto our 5th rounder just to take a depth player.

Agreed, i think Grier and MIA got to too cute with the trading. Like they were fantasy football league or something. Your analogy makes sense, none of those teams would make that trade.

I truly no nothing about the Philips pick at 18.  I knew he was a nice Edge rusher out of Miami and had seen a couple of games vs VT and UNC.  From what folks are saying, he's the best DE rusher in the draft, just worry about the past injuries and that he reited from CFB once.

You guys aren't going to say he was "too cute" when we have an extra 1st rounder two years from now.  Imagine a franchise thinking of the long term and not being shortsighted.  Weird.

I don't know if he knew the cost to trade up with Philly before he did it because that move up negated a lot of the value we got from the Niners. Or maybe he didn't think the Bengals would leave their QB out to dry or the Falcons would delude themselves into thinking they were one piece away.

Or, and this is becoming more likely, that teams like the Panthers and Broncos really weren't interested in drafting a QB, so there was no market for the Falcons to move back.
