THE ASSCLOWN AWARD

« on: July 17, 2021, 05:40:08 pm »

After a fourteen season career.  Three of which were spent with Miami.  He got so much unfair criticism from fans and media here in Miami.  When he left he enjoyed a solid career. He appeared in two Super Bowls and several conference championships. He was a key component of the 2008 division championship team, rushing for and catching two touchdowns.  Granted, Tom Brady being injured that season helped open the door.

I said it at the time he was traded from Miami, he was drafted to high but traded for too little he was a decent good player, just not a top 10 draft pick.  Somewhere in the 30-50 range.

Is it just him retiring or the entire Ginn family?  Carrying an entire family on your roster can wreak havoc on your salary cap numbers.

Not only was he drafted too high, he was drafted by a Dolphins team that had much bigger holes to fill at other positions, mainly someone who could get him the ball.   I'm glad he got over his fear of getting hit and went on to have a long career as a 3rd wideout/return specialist.

This gave me a chuckle.  Good post for once.

There was no QB to be taken at number 9. This isn't even a hindsight thing. Remember people were talking about taking Brady Quinn. I didn't like the Ginn pick but I was super relieved we didn't take a QB.

I wanted Quinn and that thinking is what killed Ginn's chances here. He never had a chance. Even though I hated that he refused to take a hit he went on to have a pretty decent career while Brady is a decent broadcaster. A lot of us should be eating crow on that pick.  hahaha

I always felt the same way about him avoiding contact.  Drove me crazy.  And even though I've always ragged on Ginn, I was more just pissed that they spent such a high draft pick on him.  If they had picked him in the 3rd round, I would have been fine with the pick.  In fairness to him, it wasn't his fault that he was drafted too high.

No way he would have lasted until the third round

Ginn had four TDs overturned because of penalties in his three years at Miami https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SELrPTpwkvI

And that would have been fine.  If some other team wanted to "over pick" him in the 1st or 2nd round that would have been fine with me.

A receiver that lasts fourteen years in the league is definitely worth a second-round pick and is probably worth a first.

I suppose.  But he was probably a B- to a C+ caliber player for 14 years.  I wouldn't say he was a mediocre player for 14 years, but he wasn't much more than that.
