This is always an interesting day for me to see what surprises me with the Dolphins cut down to 53, practice squad, etc.   Even the guys who take up the final few roster spots at the end of the day today aren't safe as I'm sure the Fins will be scouring the wire to see who gets cut from other teams that they might want to pick up.

Bernardrick McKinney was a slight surprise yesterday, but Skura was gone the minute the Fins traded for Mancz from the Ravens.  Interesting that Dieter seems to be the starting Center this year when after last season he was considered to even make the team this year.  I liked him coming out of college and I remember him being versatile enough to play Center in addition to Guard.  Hopefully he will play well enough at Center to give me something to gloat about here this year.  LOL

Saw also that Biegel was put on IR.  Did he get another injury that I missed or is he still not ready to go from last  year's injury?  I really liked him as a situational LB (pass rusher) so I hated to see him go to the IR.

**KNOCK KNOCK**

Coach Flores wants to see you in his office on the double.   Bring your playbook with you.

If you play like ass on this team, it doesn't matter who you are, you're out.

Yep.  Gotta be one of the worst parts of the job for a Coach.  I played two years of minor league baseball and got cut after my second year during spring training.  I knew that I had topped out and I just wasn't going to be good enough to make it to even AAA.  So I wasn't surprised to get released.  But after practice on cut day, the entire locker room was silent as people were waiting for the tap on the shoulder from one of the coaches to go see the Manager.  Roly De Armas.  Super good guy.  Since I wasn't surprised to get cut, I ended up consoling him more than he was consoling me.  LOL   Anyways, didn't mean to make this about me.  Point being that I feel for everyone involved on cut day.  From the players to the coaches, etc.

From a football standpoint, I get the McKinney cut but we need to do a better job with signing players and talking to them. We signed Shaq Lawson last year and traded him in the offseason and now McKinney is gone. I'm fine with cutting your losses, but stop making losses in the first place.

Nobody has a 100% hit rate.  Lawson didn't pan out, an McKinney was a former pro bowler, it was worth the risk.  Plus we restructured his contract so it wasn't much of a cap hit at all.

Interesting to me ... Drew Rosenhaus was on Joe Rose this morning and said typically teams notify agents before the player. They also discuss if they are wanting to put them on the practice squad or not.

I don't think Drew Rosenhaus has told the truth once in his 30+ year career as an agent.  So I doubt this is any different.  He is the OG slimy, used car salesman sports agent.

I agree.  You have to have really thick skin to be The Turk.  As for the players, you'll see them become quivering cowards on cut day.

I remember back in 1996 when Jimmy Johnson first took over, I read an account from Brett Carolan who was trying to make the team as a backup TE.   The players had been given off from the morning practice on cut day and he was sitting in his dorm room willing the phone not to ring.  It rang twice.  One was a wrong number and the second was his mother encouraging him.  He told her, "Mom, you know I love you but DON'T CALL ME TODAY!!"   Then he went to his locker for the afternoon practice all shaky because he figured he was going to get that tap on the shoulder.  When he got to his locker, he saw all his gear was still there.   And that's when he knew he made it.

This does sound logical because that way, the agent can give the player a heads up and also start looking for a new team for said player to hook up with.

I agree. He also said the worst people are the last two on the 53 as they will be cut 2 days later when they thought they made it after people pick up the FA who were dropped off of teams.

Yeah, that has to suck.  Going from a feeling of euphoria (I made the 53 man roster) to crushed a couple days later when they get released to acommadate a couple new guys who were cut from some other team.

Mostly agree. I would have probably kept Laird. And maybe Sinnett and Merritt. I probably would have sent Parker or Williams out the door, maybe both. They're too fragile for the NFL. The WR on the squad are mostly pretty scary in terms of injuries. 5 TEs, wow. Do we need 5 TEs on the roster?

They have 5 TEs on the roster today.  We'll see if they still have 5 on the roster by next week and the bottom of the roster gets churned.  Parker is fragile, but for now he is their #1 WR.  Wouldn't make much sense to cut their #1 WR.  Waddle may turn out to be great, but he hasn't played a single snap in a regular season NFL game yet.

Actually, I think with the attention that Waddle and Fuller are going to get from opposing defenses, Parker and Williams will get plenty of chances to earn their worth.
