John Madden, a Hall Of Fame coach and TV analyst posed away today.   He is one of the greatest game analyst TV announcers that ever lived

Madden and Summerall are the voices of football and will always be. Many fond memories of listening to Giants games with them.

I hate to say this, but I thought he had died a few years ago.

I knew Madden hadn't died yet. But I saw a video yesterday about him dying and it had a couple old interviews with Bill Walsh and Ken Stabler talking about Madden. Then I had to look those two up to see if they were still alive. Nope, both gone. At my age and older you see so many people dying that you grew up with that you start to lose track of them.

Same!  I was wondering why his name kept popping up.

The thing I've always liked about Madden was that he was a genuine guy, and never acted full of himself (unlike Belicheat, Jimmy Johnson, & Parcells), very Shula-esque.

I know right?   Don Shula, Howard Schnellenberger, Bobby Bowden, and now John Madden.   All legends in the game.   However, with all the shit going around with COVID and politics and the economy, now's a good time to be kicking the bucket.

It has been interesting to see/hear reactions from the different generations regarding the death of John Madden both here on TDMMC and elsewhere.  The young ones seem to only know him from the video game.  A lot more seem to remember him from being a football broadcaster.  And a handful of us old goats remember him as a coach.  He and Shula had some GREAT battles and they were much alike in their respect for the game, etc.  Not surprisingly, they were good friends.  Madden is also one of a very small group of coaches who had a winning record against Shula.

Because, for some reason up until 1992, the Dolphins had a terrible record against the Raiders.  Since 1992, it's been the other way around.
