Another stat my brother pointed out

Miami was 9-0 against QBs who have an O in their names

They were 0-8 against those who do not.

I don't find this too shocking. We beat the 9-8 Pats twice and I can't even remember who else we beat that were playoff bound. Probably the Patriots one other time, leaving just two playoff teams. This is why Flores is gone.

And the number of losses to playoff teams for Flores? 13 including 6 straight to the Bills, half of which were blowouts.

It's actually 9-0 because we beat McCorkle Jones twice.  And it's 'O' in their LAST names being the stat.

Yeah, that's why he is fired. 2020 was the start of progress and instead we went way backwards, even after pretty much nailing the first few picks in the draft. Whoever was in charge of free agency did a terrible job as all we did was add depth players instead of impact ones. Can't make that mistake again, especially now that we have a shitty 1st round pick and only one of them. Have to nail free agency.

And now lets examine those 5 playoff wins in 3 years....

1) Miami beat Philadelphia 37-31 who was a playoff team at 9-7 that year. Fitzpatrick was 27-39 for 365 yards with 3 passing TDs, 1 rushing TD and 1 INT. The offense scored all 37 points in the game, defense had 1 take away.

2) Miami beat the Patriots 27-24. Fitzpatrick was 28-41 for 320 yards and TD. Defense had 2 takeaways including a pick 6.

3) Miami beat the Rams 28-17. Tua was 12-22 for 93 yards and TD. Defense had 4 takeaways including a fumble return for a TD and Jakeen grant returned a punt for a TD.

4) Miami beat the Patriots 17-16. Tua was 16-27 for 202 yards a passing TD and a rushing TD and INT. Defense had 2 takeaways including a fumble recovery to seal the win.

5) Miami beat the Patriots 33-24. Tua was 15-22 for 109 yards 1 passing TD. Defense had 3 takeaways including a pick 6 and a fumble recovery for a TD to seal the win.

3 of the 5 games the defense and special teams were largely responsible for the win. Fitzpatrick was 55-80 with 685 yards, 4 passing TDs, 1 rushing TD and 1 INT in his 2 wins while the defense had 3 takeaways and scored 1 TD. Tua was 43-71 for 404 yards 3 passing TDs 1 rushing TD and an INT in his 3 wins, the defense contributed 9 takeaways with 3 TD's and special teams had another in those 3 games.

So as long as our defense and special teams score as much as our offense we have a shot at beating a playoff team and the talking heads can't figure out why Miami fired Brian Flores.

That's typical when your pass offense is inadequate.  To beat good teams, which likely have good pass offenses themselves, you're going to have to limit them defensively.  Only then can your (inadequate) pass offense outduel theirs.

The question is, is this team's inadequate pass offense Flores's fault, and is he responsible for the kind of defensive play noted above?

Flores is responsible for the team which includes the offense, the defense and the special teams. You're damn right he's responsible for the offensive woes of the team as well as the defensive success and here's the problem, in today's NFL it's very hard to hold offenses to under 20 points a game because the offenses are given so many advantages. If you can do it you are going to win a lot of games, BUT if you can't and a lot of times this year Miami wasn't able to hold teams to under 30 points let alone under 20, you lose when you build a team that wins on defense alone. That's Flores' fault.

Not that it makes much of a difference but that wins list is missing one game somewhere. It only  lists 23 wins.

It's missing the 2nd NY Jets win of 2021.
