Sure doesn't seem like the Dolphins are moving very fast in their search. That might cost them their guy or a decent staff but then again ... when has that ever stopped them? I guess the important thing to Chris Grier is that it's a new coach who shouldn't hurt his feelings.

https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2022/01/27/report-brian-daboll-mike-mcdaniel-kellen-moore-on-dolphins-second-interview-list/

The Dolphins are moving toward a second round of head coaching interviews and there’s word on which coaches remain in the mix in Miami.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll, 49ers offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel, and Cowboys offensive coordinator Kellen Moore are expected to receive second interviews for the job.

Daboll coached at Alabama early in Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa‘s time at the school and he was mentioned as a candidate shortly after the Dolphins fired Brian Flores. Daboll has also interviewed twice with the Giants, however, and worked with their new General Manager Joe Schoen in Buffalo, so there may be competition for his services.

The second round of interviews is expected to get underway next week.

Next week? There are no weekends in the NFL, you work 24/7. There is absolutely no excuse to not have Daboll and Moore doing interviews today or tomorrow. McDaniel I can understand because he is still in the playoffs. You absolutely run the risk of the Giants bringing him in and making him an offer he can't walk away from.

Also, no desire to see Kellen Moore coach this team. We are one of the top jobs if not the top job, can't walk away with a Kellen Moore.

FWIW, if we hire Daboll, I would be surprised if he didn't want to bring Ken Dorsey with him as OC. That would hurt the Bills and probably help us as it would be a smooth transition. Ken Dorsey obviously has Miami ties.

This is just like the GM search after 2013 when the people in charge of hiring went dawdling about on other business and let the media control the narrative.

I don't see that happening. Josh Allen has publicly stated he wanted Dorsey as his OC if Daboll leaves. I can't see how Dorsey would leave if given that opportunity as that job could easily set him up as a future head coach.

It was reported about a week ago that everyone was waiting to see which way Dan Quinn went. Now that Jerry convinced Quinn to stay in Dallas, everything else will happen pretty fast.

After the Quinn decision, Bears pretty much immediately hired Eberflus and the Broncos hired Hackett. The other 6 dominoes will fall quickly as well.

And that's exactly what happened. Few reporters are saying that Harbaugh may not be out of the running. National Signing Day is Tuesday and holding off on interviewing Harbaugh or whatever would help Michigan as opposed to announcing he might be leaving. We all know how much Ross loves Michigan.

I don't buy that at this point but our behavior is very strange, you just don't tell people with job offers on the table to hold off until next week for another interview. I honestly don't know what the hell we are doing, all I know is the team does not deserve the benefit of the doubt.

The rumors I'm hearing is that Miami wanted McDaniel more than Daboll and apparently wanted to reinterview McDaniel before hiring him so that is why they made a 2nd round of interviews for next week. The rumor is they wanted McDaniel more than they were afraid of losing Daboll, but it's all just speculation. Personally I'm not interested in either Daboll or McDaniel, would still like to see them hire a guy with some head coaching experience even if he wasn't that successful. Some HC's have done better in their 2nd place rather than the first.

In all honesty, at this point I would be very surprised if we didn't end up with McDaniel or Harbaugh. Vance Joseph is the Dark Horse but that would be a very unpopular hire.

There isn’t a popular hire among the guys they have short listed. I can’t remember when I’ve felt worse about the management of this team. Like I said … Chris Jones wants an inexperienced guy who won’t hurt his feelings. The way it looks right now this team is fucked for at least another three years. We are either going to hire another “offensive coordinator” who doesn’t call plays or a defensive coach who has already failed.

^^^

Now that we know Harbaugh is looking to return to the NFL, let's see how much control Grier has. If Harbaugh does return and signs with another team while we get some guy who won't rock the boat like Vance Joseph, then Grier is the de facto owner of the team.

I’m not a fan of his at all. I think he lucked into a Super Bowl. Anyway … he would be better than the guys we have shortlisted. If we get Harbaugh then this was a set up from the beginning. Like I said … Ross has as much control in Michigan as he does down here. When he fired Flores he already knew what his college coach was doing.

I would honestly have much more respect and feel better about Ross if this was his plan all along. Play along with not taking him from Michigan so Michigan still has a good signing day (Vikings interview leak may have hurt that), fake some interviews with other candidates but oddly enough show no urgency to hire any of them and then let Harbaugh choose you? It does seem crazy but we're literally halfway there already.

I was wondering if Pederson even wanted another HC job since I didn't hear of him doing interviews, but I read he was interviewing for the Saints job today.  Maybe the Dolphins will screw up all of their early choices and get "stuck" with Pederson.  That wouldn't bother me at all given the choices available.

I'm still seeing rumors that Ross will still make a play for Harbaugh now that Harbaugh has put his name into the NFL Head coaching search. The theory is that Ross can now claim that he's not taking Harbaugh from Michigan, rather taking him from some other NFL team.
