I believe the 1972 Dolphins only care about the 1972 Dolphins and not the Miami Dolphins.  They only want to protect their own legacy as the only undefeated team, even if it means throwing the current Dolphins under the bus.

They're on record saying that this only applies to non-dolphins teams. and would love nothing more than for the dolphins to have 2 undefeated seasons when everyone else has 0

I think any celebration of the '72 team needs to wait until much-much later than 4-0...

They could be on record, I believe they're full of it.  Let's see how Mercury Morris reacts when the Dolphins eventually lose...

I think you're missing the prompt.

The 72 team pops champagne / sends a thank you champagne whenever the last NFL team falls from undefeated.

There are only 2 teams left, Eagles and Dolphins.  So, if the Eagles lose, the Dolphins undefeated streak stays in tact, regardless....so, should they pop champagne then.  Or do they wait for the 4-0 Dolphins to lose, as well.

Has there seriously been no instance over the last 40-some-odd years (whenever it was that they started the champagne thing) where the Dolphins were the last undefeated team?

I don't think there has. I also think this years teams are going down fater than usual.

1984? The 1984 Dolphins went 14-2 and lost in week 12. The 49'ers went 15-1, but they lost in week 7 so seems like the Dolphins would have had a good shot at being the last team to lose that year. Anyone remember if the '72 Dolphins popped the champagne before week 12 that year?

They would probably be happy if we also went undefeated because it gives them media attention too.

I've heard several of the former Dolphins talk about the team including two of the most vocal in Mercury Morris and Larry Csonka and I can assure that most, if not all, would fully support this team going undefeated. This is family for them. They are on Cloud 9 right now about these guys and our new coach.

Shouldn't there be a third option for the poll? When both Philly and Miami lose.

I think they should pop it when the Eagles lose.  It wouldn't be right to "celebrate" a Miami Dolphins team losing, that would stir up all kinds of bad press.

MIA plays 3 days before PHI, so that scenario would be covered by the "When the Eagles lose" option.
