THE ASSCLOWN AWARD

« on: March 17, 2023, 11:34:46 pm »

First, it was bats

Then, it was pangolins

Then, it was a lab leak

Now, it's raccoon dogs.  I didn't even know such an animal existed.

I listened to a very interesting science podcast about the lab leak vs. occurred in nature theory and why different organizations believe different things and how they come to those ideas.

I'm probably not going to do it justice, but you can look at a situation through the virus itself -- like, the evolution of the actual proteins that are shared with other strains -- scientists are doing this.  Their belief is that it is naturally occurring from an animal.  This has been suggested since the beginning for them, but they were missing the specific case and they think they have found it with the racoon dog.  It is the likeliest scenario for them and the racoon dog is the best proof they've had yet, so this new news makes them incredibly confident.

Whereas, the branches that are supporting the lab leak theory are approaching the problem like an investigative reporter.  They're interviewing people, making inferences based on testimony, looking at motivations, ..looking at leaked documents, etc. etc -- and they think it's from the lab itself because the lab is close by.  It's the way they'd try to track down spycraft and espionage, for example.
