You have too many players on here, in my opinion, that just weren't with us long enough or didn't cost us anything.  Thompson...yeah, he didn't become anything, but we didn't draft him and he wasn't around very long.
Same with Cris Carter.  We brought him in at the end of his career, expecting nothing, and pretty much got nothing.


Yatil Green is on there.  He just couldn't get healthy.  It sucks, but he was a big cost to the franchise.
Derek Hagan is a pretty good choice.

How about Ted Ginn?  He had good moments and he wasn't a trash player.  But he never lived up to what we drafted him for at 9th overall.  He had a decent NFL career as a returner and possession guy, but never justified his draft position or roster spot as our #1 receiver. 

Devante Parker also never justified his draft position.

Ginn helped us for three seasons and got a bad rap.  He had a successful career and stuck it to the Miami Dolphins.

If we can extend the definition of the receivers group to the TE position, then I humbly nominate....

Eric Green.

The guy was great at Pittsburgh... and an expensive dud (at the time the highest paid TE in NFL history) for us. Worse still, we fit him in by cutting Keith Jackson (who immediately proved his worth to Green Bay on a Championship team).

Case closed.

David Boston. Pro Bowl pedigree, traded not much to the Chargers for him and he basically bench pressed his way out of the league. Dude got so big he couldn't play football anymore.

I can’t really add Greene because it’s not his fault he got hurt, Cris Carter was old and had kidney problems…

Maybe Wes Welker for doing great things outside of Miami?

Funnily enough I had him as a contender for the (genuine) Mt Rushmore - he was a damn good receiver for us who played at an elite level despite our Quarterbacks at the time being not particularly good. Unfortunately he made a point of that at the Pro Bowl (where he was MVP) and got shipped out immediately after.

Jarvis Landry I thought was another contender for the (genuine) Mt Rushmore, but overall I placed Nat Moore's body of work above these two. The off-field issues admittedly didn't exactly help their case either.

If you're talking about a potential dud for this section, how about Mike "hands of stone" Wallace? He was another overhyped, overpriced ex-Steeler who never played up to the same level for us.

Yatil Green - yes it's unfair, his luck sucked. But the reasons are well explained in the Ring of Dishonor.

He was a hell of a great kick returner, and that bomb from Henne to burn Revis on MNF 2009 was a thing of beauty... but one brilliant reception does not make a career. He was drafted way too high for what he turned out to be for us... oh, and there's also that damning Snoop Video:

Also thought of Larry Shannon.  Jimmy Johnson passed on Randy Moss in 1998 to draft him in the third round and said he was a step faster than Moss.   He never caught a pass in the NFL.
