I believe in democracy and when you lose on votes and issues, you can't just win anyway. [...]

Democracy is something you can't take for granted.

A man tried to overthrow the elected government of the US and, so far, seems to have the support of about half the country.  That is unacceptable.  It is the issue that matters to America more than all others combined.  Democracy matters most.
Dave, the right-wing in America has realized that their policies are unpopular and unwanted by a majority of the electorate.  They have stopped trying to compete for the popular vote, both at the presidential level and in state/federal legislatures, where they simply gerrymander districts to win huge majorities of seats even when they lose the the vote totals.

Put rather simply: if free and fair elections stand in opposition to implementation of conservative policy, it is not conservative policy that must change, but the electoral process.  The outcome of 30 years of radicalization by conservative talk radio & Fox News is that American conservatives see the Democratic Party (and the broader left) as fundamentally illegitimate to govern.  Any steps taken to prevent them from governing are therefore justified.

For them, every day is Flight 93.

Why do you think guns matter in this case?  They obviously didn't need guns to take over the Capitol and successfully block the counting of electoral votes.  The reason why they (eventually) failed was not because they didn't have enough guns, but because Trump is a coward and decided not to overrule Pence when Pence deployed the National Guard to the Capitol (a power that the Vice President does not legally possess).

Let me make this crystal clear: if the Joint Chiefs had decided to follow the letter of the Constitution, the National Guard would not have been deployed to the Capitol until Trump himself ordered it.  That is how close we came to a coup of our government.
Had you paid attention to any of the multiple hearings into what happened on January 6, you would know that this ridiculous lie is too absurd to propose with a straight face.  There are many, many videos of the violence perpetrated on January 6.  But instead, you'll keep parroting the Fox News viewpoint that January 6 was a peaceful protest or whatever.
LMAO ... No one was taking over anything. It amounts to a bunch of trespassers. Let me be very clear. Trump did some shady crap but the people at the capital were trespassers. There were no weapons to take over anything. Boycouts with guns could have retaken the capital! hahaha  The way you say it every tree hugger who stands on private property to stop construction would be an insurrectionist. Where they in the wrong and stupid? Absolutely but you liberals have made this molehill into a mountain to try and justify looting and rioting and it is funny at best.

Getting offended by something you see on the internet is like choosing to step in dog shite instead of walking around it.

Y'all have become so obsessed with guns that you think nothing of significance can happen without them.

What is your explanation for why the members of Congress were running scared in the halls and hiding in closets?  Why did Congress stop counting the electoral votes for mere trespassing peaceful protesters?

Boycouts with guns could have retaken the capital!
Let me give you a brief preview of what would have been awaiting "boyscouts with guns" who tried to retake the Capitol, if Trump had successfully blocked the transfer of power:

Yeah, calling that trespassing is some galaxy-brain shit.

It was a multi-tiered attempt to overthrow the government via force and intimidation.  Jan 6th storming of the Capitol was only one leg of that attempt.  A failure to hold the parties accountable makes me think that it's still occurring.

How does it feel to live in a country without the "right to bear arms" bullshit, and have a place of genuine free speech? (within reason)

I can tell you it's fucking wonderful. To know there isn't a remote chance of a mentally challenged halfwit having access to a semi-automatic (let alone fully-automatic) weapon that can kill literally dozens of people at the squeeze of a trigger when they have a bad turn is an absolute blessing.

When are you guys going to WTFU over there? I'm not talking about banning arms for everyone, but at least take them away from the most deranged fucktards that can do the most amount of damage, with so little roadblocks to get these high powered weapons. How many school massacres do you need to actually do something about it?

You don't need more guns, just restrict them from the really, really questionable people who don't need them in the first place. Especially the guns that kill a lot of people very, very fast. It isn't that hard to do. Like I said, WAKE THE FUCK UP!

Such a simplistic post based on emotion. What process do we use to identify your definition of the most dangerous fucktards?

Yes it is emotional from a point of utter frustration, and Fucktards is admittedly an offensive term - but it's also self explanatory if you bother to look into it. It's someone not fit to own a weapon of that sort of mass destruction, period. If you really want to stop the mass killing of defenseless young kids, it shouldn't be that hard. Take the worst weapons away (stop them getting approved) to people with a history of criminal activity and/or medically diagnosed symptoms of psychosis, schizophrenia or other equally violent prior histories.

There may be the occasional case that slips through, but surely it's better than what's happening now?

Plus as I said, my little country is genuinely a land of genuinely free speech. Do you think you have the remote chance of going up to the President and saying to his face he should go fuck himself with a concrete dildo until it bleeds, with absolutely no consequences? Case closed.

I think the biggest, most plausible path is to deny gun sales to those who have been found or plead guilty to domestic assault.  I think it's a winnable political argument and would have tangible results that save a lot of lives.

That's already in place if I'm not mistaken.   Or it may be limited to those who have a restraining order placed on them.
