Oh shit, Minkah's now been traded to the Jets.

https://phinphanatic.com/dolphins-trade-minkah-fitzpatrick-again-jon-eric-sullivan-continues-roster-purge

This has really become a slash and burn exercise. There is little to no leadership players leading into 2026. Expect the worst.

And you are getting a whopping 2026 7th round pick.  The Jets have two -- no word on whether it is the one Tenn or Buf.

$33M of dead cap poison from Tua's contract is going to drift in to 2027 (let alone anything else).

We are seriously fucked for at least three years. Think about that.

Playing pass the parcel in a Belfast pub just ended in Miami tonight, and it blew up.

DEN took an $85M cap hit to cut Russell Wilson in 2024 and immediately made the playoffs that season; the following year they were the #1 seed in the AFC, with Russ as the top paid player "on the team."

The NFL is a league where any team can instantly go from the garbage to winning in the playoffs.
2025 Patriots, 2024 Commanders, 2023 Texans, 2022 Giants, 2021 Bengals, 2020 Buccaneers, 2019 49ers, etc.

That's just ridiculous.   You give up a top safety in the league for a seventh round pick??    I could take a shit and get a seventh round pick out of it.

NYJ took on all of Minkah's salary in the trade, which gives MIA ~$10M in cap room for 2026.
It was a salary dump.  The 7th round pick (which is from LAC) is basically just a throw in.

Please stop with this nonsense. The 2027 cap will be fine for Miami even with Tua's and possibly Chubbs contracts on it next year...unless they do something stupid like try to sign a $30M QB or something. 2026 is a nightmare, beyond that though is not an issue. Now that doesn't mean the roster will look fine, that's going to take a lot of work to get into shape, but it's certainly doable. That's the whole reason this new GM was brought in. If he can't fix the roster in 3 years then he was the wrong guy for the job, end of story.

I think Miami is trying to make more cap space so that Chubb can be a Pre June 1st cut. I think that $10M in savings basically gets them there which would mean that really only Tua's dead money would be on 2027 cap.

How about a 20m/yr QB?

This was exactly my worry. In my humble opinion, we traded one bonehead GM for another. I'll be more than happy to say I was wrong in 3 years. We'll see.

Well, guess I was wrong. They were clearing space so they could sign Malik. I think this is a mistake, but I hope I'm wrong.
