Wonder if that means they have their eye on a waiver wire QB from another team? Surely they're not going to stick with the 2 backups they have. Honestly if we are going to keep one, I'd keep Gronowski. He seems like his skill set is closer to Malik than Miller. As far as play goes, I don't see much difference, but Gronowski looks like he has an escapability about him. I typically don't like running QB's, but this year is different, I'll take whatever I can get.

Might make sense to keep the guys you got.  Back up and don't get reps with the 1s during the season so unless the backup is significantly more talented you are better off with guys that reps in camp

I don't think the management wanted their choice of Willis to be questioned so Ewers was gone.  But picking up another GB QB to be the back-up?  You can't tell me they aren't just going with someone they know versus looking for the best available player, and that is not a good look.

My biggest concern with this team is a sense of cronyism.

They hired the GM from the Packers, which is fine.  No problem.  But then it turns out that the best choice for head coach is... the assistant coach he worked with on the Packers.  And the best choice for QB is... the backup QB they worked with, from the Packers.

"I'm just going to hire people I already know" is not a promising start to a regime.  It implies you are unable (or unwilling) to evaluate unfamiliar personnel.

And it's not like they are raiding a championship staff/roster with a history of sustained success, like the Chiefs or Rams. The Packers haven't done shit!

He's not really a Packer or at least not here because he was with them. He was drafted by the Eagles and played on their practice squad last year. Our Passing game coordinator was his Offensive Coordinator in Philly. The guy out battled the number one draft pick, Cam Ward, in the last game of the season gong into the draft of 2025 so he can play.

Ewers made out going to the Jags. Good team with offensive coach and no backup, this should be a great opportunity to him.

This statement is not the refutation of Spider's claim that the Dolphin's FO is lazy and won't spend time watching film to evaluate players they don't personally know that you think it is.

We don't know that. For one if he has ties to the offensive coordinator, he might have a leg up on terminology for example then another free agent might. On top of that McCord had a very good preseason which is more than can be said of anybody that Miami got rid of, so there's that.

He doesn't have ties to your OC, he has ties to your passing coordinator, HC and GM.  So unless the Dolphin's are using the terminology Patullo brought from the Eagles or terminology from Greenbay  instead of Slowik's system he doesn't have a leg up.  And it is unlikely Hafley would bring in "his offense" as he was a defense guy. 

I do agree there might be a reason other than Sullivan's cronyism.  But CF Dolphan's statement does nothing to refute Spider's allegation.

It is the very same pick and since it's probable that both trade talks were happening at the same time, basically Ewers was traded for McCord straight up from a Dolphins perspective. It's too early in both of their careers to determine if this was a good trade or not. In my humble opinion all you can really make of this is that Hafley was not comfortable with either Miller or Gronowski being the backup to Malik and if you're trying to decide between Ewers or McCord, both Hafley and Patullo have some familiarity with both of them. I would assume they both thought McCord had slightly more upside than Ewers. The same guys below graded the trade of Ewers to Jacksonville an A for the Jaguars. Since they are now calling the McCord to Dolphins trade an A for the Dolphins, that's probably a combined C grade for both trades.
