Another thing about Tice - he was hired from within.  Teams will more likely pick promise over experience when they're taking from their own coaching talent pool.

...the same way that we considered Jim Bates.

I don't think Bates was a real option though, much like he was not a real option in green Bay.

I think Wayne was trying to appease the players by letting Bates name linger as long as it did.

I liked Chan Gailey as an OC.  I thought he did a good job with pretty weak talent.
