Premise: Joe, A down on his luck writer, hides out with a washed up-movie starlet, to evading creditors.  Refusing to believe that her career is over, she enlists him to be the editor on a narcissistic screenplay, on which she'd penned for her next role.  Meanwhile, Joe is sneaking off at night to meet a girl and work on a different script, with a younger, more talented writer.

Rating: Good

This is supposed to be one of the best movies of all time.  Considering it's from 1950, it's got quite a bit of "Tarantino" in it.  It starts off with the main character dead, and then cycles back to how it happened.  Overall, a good film.  ...and if I were alive in 1950, a great one.

I tend to stay in the 60s-present era of movies, but this sounds interesting so maybe I'll check it out.

Is it just to expand your knoweldge?  Do you really enjoy movies from 50+ years ago?  I can't watch any programming from back then - all those shows like the 3 stooges, the twilight zone - anything with black and white, really.  It's so dry and boring.

I love the old Black and white Twilight Zones....I love to see the famous people in them when they were young.I also love to see the way they thought things might be,and the way they thought.I try to catch quite a few of them when they are on the Sci fi channel.

When I turn on my Computer,I have Rod Sterling doing the opening of the orginal twilight zone....

I try to go outside of my comfort zone as much as possible.  I look at people who won't try new things -- they eat the same stuff, they watch the same kinds of things that they know they'll like, they don't ever attempt to do anything a little risky -- and then they're 60 years old, watching Jerry Bruckheimer films and eating mac and cheese.

Wow...did you look into the future of my life or something??  So what if I'm boring and "routine".  Furthermore, I wouldn't call watching a 50's movie doing "something risky".  If you do, then man you lead a hell of an exciting life!

By the way that reminds me of something.  Why does everyone hate Jerry Bruckheimer so much?  This one girl that I know, she's now going to UCF and majoring in cinematography.  Something about movies came up and she was like "yeah well bruckheimer plays to the crowd" or something.

I don't know DICK about directors - I just know what I like.  So what did this guy do, say I hate America or something?

I just mean that old movies are risky in the sense that they are not from the same formula that I'm fed every day -- I'm not comparing Casablanca to sky diving.

As far as Bruckheimer is concerned, he's the guy who puts out big budget blockbusters that follow the same formula every time.  ...big, over-the-top expolsions, the hot at the moment actors, corny one-liners, good guy beats the bad guy in the end, with a loud, overly dramatic score.  These aren't all BAD movies, per se, but they are safe -- you know what you're going to get.

He does stuff like:
The Rock (a movie I actually really like)
Armageddon
Bad Boys
etc.

I think basicly what Dave is saying,Jerry Bruckheimer makes movies that take no brain power what so ever to watch. There is no deep story, plot,Etc,Etc.

Something along those lines?

Ok well that's what I like.  When it comes to movie watching I have ZERO brain power and intellgence.  I need over-the-top explosions, in your face tits and ass, and cheesy one-liners.
