There's gonna be a NEW sheriff in town- the New Gillette Fusion has 5 blades!

I picked up Cargo magazine the other day. Its from Maxim or FHM or one of those mags, and it reviews products for men.
Anyway, they had an article about a new razor Gillette is releasing in February (the 5th I think) called the Fusion. It has five blades. Its engineered a little differently though, so the blades are closer together, so its a smooth shave. There will be a regular and a battery powered version. They reviewed them both and said it was an amazingly close shave, with no cuts. The battery powered one has better blades than the standard one (so you spend more money). It also has a 6th single blade on the back of the razor, so you flip it over to get hard to reach spots, like that little spot where your nostrils meet your face, or to trim up sideburns or whatever.

Anyway, I plan to pick one up when its released (Gillette has been good to me), so I'll do a product review. We are going to be in Los Cabos from the 9th thru the 14th, so I may not write it up until after then.

You know, I had an idea that was stolen from me due to my failure to jump on it...

I had this idea after the Mach 3 first came out. Its a blade that has a space for 20 blades in it. Enough bades for whatever you need. Need 3? Insert 3 blades. Bushy thick beard? Try 8 blades. Massive back hair? Try 15.

I know SNL did something last year that was similar, but I had the idea about 7 years ago.

DOH!!!

I'll try the 5 blade, but I'll likely stick with my Mach 3.

I remember seeing the SNL "commercial" for this years ago.

Who was in it? I remember seeing Kattan and someone else. It was a new episode at the time. Did they redo an old bit?

Maybe we are talking about 2 different bits. The bit I remember was a "commercial" for a new razor. It went something like "the first blade lifts your skin, the 2nd blade separates, the third blade cuts your long hair a little bit, the 4th blade cuts them a little bit more, the 5th blade lifts some more, the 6th blade separates a bit more, the 7th blade...." and so on and so on. I remember them talking about the 38th blade, and 40th blades...

I bought one this weekend and tried it...it's okay.  I didn't notice much of a change versus the Mach 3 or the Turbo.

Speaking of - are they discontinuing the Turbo?

Anyway, I'm not sure what my face's deal is the past 3 months.  Razor bumps / burn, cuts and knicks, things that have NEVER happened.  I've always had sensitive skin, but not like this.  It's to the point where I've purchased "product" versus normal shave gell.  Not sure what to do, or why the change.  Frustrating.

As someone who regularly shaves his beard with a straight razor, I think if you ever tried shaving your nads with one, you'd have to change your name up here to Denver_Broncette.  Wink

I can't shave with a freakin' Mach 3 lately without making my face look as though Freddy Cruger paid me a visit.  I think I'll pass on a straight blade.

You got one Maine? I guess they released them early up in Gilette country.

Anyway, every once in awhile I get a "bad" Mach 3 blade in the pack. It seems to rip my face up. But its usually once in every 15 razors.

According to the review of the Fusion, the battery powered one shaves much smoother than the standard, and has a special teflon like coating on the blade to prevent slicing your face.

I used to have lots of issues with the straight razor when I first started using it, but my face got so used to it that I can "almost" dry shave with it now.

Hey MaineDolFan,

I have been experiencing the same thing lately... I think it may just be the cold weather.

I'm not sure how you shave, but here is what I do:

I used to shave before my shower because I didn't want to get dirty right after a shower.  But, lately, I have been taking a shower first.  The warm water tends to make my skin softer for a better shave and less irritation.  Try doing this and let me know your results.
