You'd think that women who gave their life to the game of curling would be big, burly freaks.  ...at least I would.  And I'd be wrong.  I watched some of it the other day, and the American team was SMOKIN'....   The Japs weren't too bad either.  Just as I was making this note, they talk about how they're releasing a "girls of curling calendar" with these chicks all scantilly clad.  ....I couldn't make something like that up.

What exactly is curling anyway?  What is the object of the game?  From an SI article I once read, it looks like a shuffleboard type game on ice.

Kind of like shuffleboard somewhat. The target area is called the house. You try and get your stones closest to the center of the house. You score one point for each stone that is closer than your opponents closest. The objectives are to plan ahead and put the stones in strategic areas ahead of time (anticipate where you will go based on my previous turn). Each round is called and end and there are 10 ends in a match.

I'd like to get my stones in her house!

...no, that analogy doesn't really work as well as it could.

OK, and what if my stone hits your stone and knocks it farther away from the house?  Have I taken a point from you just like I would've in shuffleboard?

Yes. If you play horseshoes it would be similar scoring. When and end is completed, only the closest stones would score. If you knock mine out, no points for it (unless I have another stone closer than yours still).

OK, I'm getting the jist of it somewhat.  I heard this game is EXTREMELY popular in North Dakota.  Word is, everyone goes up to the arena pub after the game and has a few pints, winners treat the losers.  If that's the case, I'd lose on purpose  Grin
