There are a few other teams drafting before us with needs at QB. On the NFL network, they were saying that the Jets may take Cutler at #4 if he impresses them at the combine.

The Jets need O-Line help more than anything.  D'Brick is their man.

If they release Pennington, they basically have Jay Fiedler as their starter. You don't call that a pressing need at QB?

D'brick is a solid choice, but with pennington making life miserable for the front office, they may be forced to reach with cutler at #4.

Fiedler's release and Pennington's situation almost guarantee the Jets are going for a QB in my opinion.

If Brees passes the doctors' tests and is deemed healthy, I have no problem seeing Miami signing Brees to a contract. I'd prefer it to be a reasonable contract, obviously, but I think Drew is a high quality NFL starter and a massive upgrade to Headbutt and the Sagely one.

I see Brees asking for about 18 to 20 million upfront.  I'll take Brees in Miami, because he is better than anyone else Miami has,  but I do not want Brees in Miami.

I did not think he was that good coming out of college & I still do not, however for some reason many of a Miami fan has a jones for this guy for some reason, that I cannot figure out.  Guess it goes back to the '01 draft.

I agree. I feel a lot of people feel "we should've had him then, so lets get him now". Whats ashame is that if Miami had drafted him, and he played his first few seasons  in Miami the way he did in San Diego, everyone would've said "why'd we draft that bum".

Personally, I'm getting back on the Croyle bandwagon.

You do not know how many times I've post something like that.

Had Miami drafted Brees & he played in Miami the way he played in SD, then he would have never seen '04 in a Miami uniform.

I think you guys may underestimate his "down years" a bit. Here are his stats compared to Fiedler's for those "down years"

Brees-
2002- 526/320 60.8% 3284 yards 17TDs 16Ints
Fiedler
2002- 292/179 61.3% 2024 yards 11 TDs 13 Ints
Brees
2003- 356/205 57.6% 2108 yards 11 TDs 15 Ints
Fiedler
2003- 214/179 57.0% 2138 yards 11 TDs 13 Ints

I could have lived through those stats, we were forced to with Fiedler. The only difference, Brees got significantly better the next two years and Fiedler did not.

And weren't we all calling for Fiedlers head during those years? Had Bree's put up those numbers here, everyone would've said that Wanny drafted a bum, and we would've called for his head as well.

Remember, the only reason he even had the chance to win the starting job in San Diego after they drafted Rivers was because Rivers held out. Had Rivers not held out, who knows if Brees would've ever left the bench that year.(i'm not saying he would've been a back up all season, just saying who knows)

I get your point Philly, but think you are missing mine. I don't think anyone calls for a QBs head after he has a 60.8% completion ration and 3284 yards. The second year was a slip (what QB doesn't have one every now and then) and then he put together two more impressive years. The guy has been a regular starter for four years with only one bad one. I don't think we would have called for his head, but hindsight is 20/20. I definitely think I could have lived through his stats much easier that what we did endure and I don't think he would have been run out of town.

Yeap & Miami replaced Fiedler & they would have replace Brees or at least brought in someone to challenge him.

The fact is Brees would have not seen the field in Miami as long as JF was able to play.  Wanny loved him for some reason.   You seen how he handled & treated AJ, so I would expect the same treatment for Brees.   Wanny hated the unknown & would have rather had know mediocre play from a vet than going with an unknown young player.

So '05 would have probably been Brees 1st year of getting a chance to start.

Sort of like San Diego did by drafting Rivers...it put the fear of bench in young master Brees and motivated him to step up his game.

This whole comparing what Drew did to what Fiedler did is kind of silly anyway. Brees wasn't standing behind Miami's O-line, throwing to Miami's receivers, nor was Fiedler standing behind SD's line and tossing it to Gates and LT out of the backfield.

Personally, I think any comparison of Fiedler to Brees is like comparing a horses ass to the horse itself. Brees is a completely different caliber QB.
